Lesbialien Naoko-san — Home Surgery

Feel free to make your own pun out of the title.

Impressions:

This was odd… for a number of reasons. First and foremost because it was out in December bundled with a release of one of the print volumes and just never really showed up. We’ll leave the failings of the internet aside though. There’s little else to do on Wednesdays other than watch whatever random thing catches my eye. I’ll save the first impression wrapup for the first open day after everything has aired (last two shows are noitaminA’s pair tomorrow).

In any case, this was just a short little six minute OVA special, notable mostly for UFOTable’s involvement, but sadly, there was no claymation to be found. I feel betrayed. Hurt and betrayed. I think they had the interns make this anyway. It was… sufficient, shall we say. For a six minute short at any rate.

The rest of it isn’t bad though. Having not read the source, I was at a little bit of a loss since this was clearly some randomly determined segment put into animated form, but aliens with their heads up skirts, hitting little boys with interdimensional trains, tentacle monster moe-lure traps, and applying garden shears to dangly parts do not need a whole ton of context to begin with. Arai Satomi was a poor choice for Naoko though. I’m not sure I can remember a time when her nasally voice was used for something other than drooling over women, Ookami’s narration included.

SHE LOOKS LIKE YAMADA! sadly it’s not her….

  • Jack says:

Gah. Anime r-e-a-l-l-y needs some new hair styles.

I searched everywhere but no luck. You know what I want to ask, Aroduc. ):

  • Anise_Punter says:

Why on earth did I look for that? I knew no good could come to my ears from something with Satomi Arai in it but I looked anyway. I think Mahoraba was the last thing she did where there wasn’t this innate desire to throttle her character.

I read “randomly determined” as “randomly demented” up there and it fits just as well if not better.
