Dragon Crisis! #02 — Closed Rooms

Can we leave the lab now? Please? And never return?

Impressions:

Meh. Very disappointing episode after last week’s, mostly thanks to Random Scientist Dude and about 15 minutes worth of expositional diarreah, of which maybe 1 minute wasn’t already obvious, and then Ryuuji acting like the biggest jackass on the planet and throwing a hissy fit about not wanting Rose around right before Onyx attacked the place. Eriko also lost some points for being totally useless and randomly going off on a tangent about Onyx’s earring. No, the fact that she was falling out of her shorts after being knocked out doesn’t gain her any back. At least unlike the protagonists, Onyx knows how to get stuff done, even if he is apparently some kind of creepy pedophile out to kidnap and marry Rose. Couldn’t they start with something less creepy? Maybe like… wants to eat her or something? Why must we go places that are one step away from me making jokes about underaged sex with giant lizards?

Really though, Onyx’s little chaos was just about the only interesting thing in the episode and while it was marginally better than the car chase last scene, this ‘action’ show is still having issues putting together… well… action. I did enjoy the security guards standing in a circle around him before opening fire though. They’re clearly not exactly the best and brightest. Just one in a long list of very poorly thought-out things about this episode. It’s not like Ryuuji finding a giant dragon egg which hatched into a girl, said girl imprinting on him, and then he apparently promptly forgetting about it made any sense to begin with. He’s giving any number of Kazuyas a real run for their money in the worst protagonist of the season triathalon. Hopefully he shoots skeet better than he doesn’t-whine-about-having-a-loving-pet-dragon.

Preview:

Talk to the hand, ’cause the dragon don’t wanna hear it.

I seem to remember Deen doing the same thing with Umineko.

  • Chen says:

Why must you be so terrible, Deen?

  • Aex says:

This needs to figure out what kind of show it is. If it’s really an action show, this pacing is gonna cause me rage!

  • arknoir says:

Are you mocking the Virtual Boy in half of those screen caps? Being red don’t make it better or 3-d?

  • AfroSquirrel says:

“I seem to remember Deen doing the same thing with Umineko.”

Fewer jobs have a higher fatality rate than being a security guard at the DEEN offices.

  • Anonymous says:

When Ryuji started angsting and shoved Rose I wanted to punch him.

  • Joel says:

It only took Ryuji two episodes to get into the illustrious Index-tier of terrible anime protagonists. That’s quite a feat.

  • koga88 says:

I have to admit when I saw Ryuuji start to act like he did in this episode it nearly turned me off the entire show all together. Sure a weak minded protagonist is common in shows that feature strong women with a potential harem feel but this is pathetic.

Not only is he acting wimpy but he is completely just going off the board here with the angst. I really hope that the next episode turns the show around because this one really made me not want to come back to the series anymore.

  • Dude says:

“It’s not like Ryuuji finding a giant dragon egg which hatched into a girl, said girl imprinting on him, and then he apparently promptly forgetting about it made any sense to begin with.”

    Dude…you’re totally bringing up Jacob-vibes. Eww…

  • Silver says:

I don’t need to Ryuuji too much because apparently he is quite different than the usual spineless protagonists in that he actually changes… really quickly too. You can see a hint of that near the end when he just pushes all that angst aside and tried to protect Rose.

  • Jack says:

Ah, this episode sucked more than I want to admit. Ryuuji is a combo of the worst aspects of the typical male anime lead. Pitiful. I hate slogging it out for a week after an episode tanks.

  • The Phantom says:

Wow, Utterly disappointed by the male lead, the guy is an ass period.

last episode was much better than this, definitely dropping this from the top of my must watch list, may even drop this show if things dont improve.

He seriously should have remained silent, what an ass.
