Heaven’s Lost Property Æ’ #03 — Duwa!
October 15th, 2010
To be fair, Duwa was better than this.
Impressions:
It’s probably my age talking, but I’ve seen so many of these comic pro wrestling episodes in fanservice shows already that it’s old hat, and this one did almost nothing different from any of them. They were practically a seasonal requirement for Ranma 1/2. Girls Bravo had its lesbian ninjas in mud, Galaxy Angel had its women groping men, Pengy evolved into an Ultraman parody, Airmaster was Airmaster, School Rumble had its Duwa, Punie was practically based around it, etc ad nauseum. It didn’t even have almost any of the really wacky wrestling moves, just Tomoki groping girls and a very brief ridiculous Astraea bit as some kind of Americanized… I don’t even know what.
No real development otherwise (a surprise, I know). For being the plot point of the season, Astraea barely had 3 minutes of screentime, if that. There was some halfassed focus on Nymph, but it was just about four lines bookending the start and end of the festival and really had absolutely nothing to do with the episode itself. So… overall, meh. Seen it all before. It could have been a lot better if Tomoki had a move outside of "fondle breasts for critical damage" or with more heavy gunfire, preferably to Tomoki’s ‘heart bell.’

Horrible, horrible episode.
This chapter was good in the manga, but for the anime, they had to stretch for 10 whole extra minutes. Maybe that’s why it was so full of random nonsense. Astraea didn’t even belong in this chapter, for starters.
At least Nymph saved the episode with her brief appearances. That Nymph intro was godly. And she’s not even my favorite!
Dammit AIC. Pull yourself together.
