Nurarihyon’s Grandson #01 — Do Not Operate Heavy Machinery
July 5th, 2010
Show may cause drowsiness and loss of consciousness.
Impressions:
This was such a by the books Jump show that it may have caused me to lapse into a coma for a small chunk of it. Everything is so cookie cutter and presented without any trace of soul whatsoever, right down to what could charitably be called the ‘plot’ of this episode being nothing more than the Scooby Gang deciding to go putz around with ghosts. They’re already bandying around Jump’s trademark "Friends are always with you!" public service announcement too. I estimate at least three more "Friends are just super spectacular" speeches by the end of the month. Actually, that would probably be an improvement to the completely inconsequential drivel spewed from start to finish here. It was sapping my will to live.
Deen certainly didn’t help matters either. They may as well just call this show "Talking, Stills, Pans, and Sometimes Speedlines." While I do believe that Deen’s reputation for poor production is undeserved, this show certainly isn’t going to help their cause. DO SOMETHING. Make your damn show interesting in any way whatsoever. I would be a lot more forgiving if this was a Sunday morning show aimed to please small children, but unfortunately, it’s not. It probably would do much better then too. Small children are immune to its soporific effects after three bowls of Sugar Crusted Marshmallow O’s.
I did rather like the ED though, for whatever that’s worth.
Preview:
Speedlines and glowing eyes.
