Site Cleanup and Errata
June 19th, 2010
Does ‘errata’ sound like a great name for a Pokemon to anybody else?
I’m going to be doing a ton of domain cleanup over the next week or two. Most of this is pretty meaningless since the blog gets around 97% of the traffic, but I may tweak a few things here, including possibly collapsing the sidebar a little bit better now that it’s stretching out to unreasonably long. I’ve also been toying with the idea of bringing back the Current Events in there, although that was a mixture of fun and painful depending on my creativity whenever a new piece of news came out. If you have any other suggestions, feel free to leave them and I’ll think about it. I like the simplicity of the design, but I’m sure there are plenty of things that could be useful to people who don’t typically interact with the site through the administrative panel.
The major things of note that I’m planning on deleting are:
The 2007 Seimoe image board
The Animated Gif/Sprite Archive (Likely reborn as sprites/pixel art though)
The Sig Subdomain and all assorted stuff there (deceased since about a year ago anyway)
My Danmakufu Archive (Front page was broken in an update around 2008 so nobody but me could see it anyway)
The Itsusora ‘Translation’ Wiki (deceased since 2008, never was more than a front page anyway)
Valhalla Archives (Nothing you need to know about *ahem*)
I’m probably also going to screw around with the domain structure a little bit, particularly for the Translation message board (may overhaul that entire installation for that matter), but it should all be be transparent. I might break something though, so if there’s a little downtime, it’s probably just me with a monkey wrench.
If there’s anything that you want to grab from any of those, do it before Monday. I may not delete stuff right away, but I’m going to start taking the flamethrower to all the disused parts of the site probably around then. This is going to be an easy term for me so some will probably be reborn in different forms along the way as time allows. Yes, I have a summer term. This university is on an insane quarter system for post-grads since most of them are clinicians instead of full time students, but since I’m mostly just doing research/writing my thesis while waiting for them to offer the remaining classes I need, there aren’t too many demands on my time other than physically showing up and manning a desk on the off chance that an undergrad stumbles in… when they don’t have classes. Yeah.
I’m also starting work back up on ML this coming week, which should make some people happy. BBA’s not finished and it’s still the heavy priority, but it’s starting to wear me down as all these projects do at around the 85% mark and my motivation for the last couple weeks has taken a huge hit around the 2,000 line mark (about 4-5 days of work in the evenings while vegging out). So much of what’s left is comprised of either trivialities or sex, and while sex is easy given the exceedingly repetitve nature, translating moaning got old some time in February. It’ll also give my editors something of a chance to catch up. Don’t hold your breath for a major ML update any time soon though. Even though TK (no relation) is a wonderful wonderful hacker and managed to import all the duplicate battle quotes from GA into ML, that still leaves about 3500 (of 5000) to go in the battle quote file alone. I blame Chitose. Besides, I can cut back quite a lot for BBA and still make my estimated deadline of "Before Civ5 comes out" with about 2 weeks to spare. The real challenge will be working on ML once I have Civ5 to distract me.
I’ll toss the seasonal preview up on Wednesday. I believe that nothing else has early airings like Sekirei, but I haven’t really paid that close attention. The commercials for the new season are just starting as shows end anyway, making all the pissing matches about who’s going to cover what in the rest of the blarg-o-pyramid three weeks before things air… possibly before work even finishes on initial episodes… all the more annoying to me. "Sorry, too busy to watch the last quarter of this season, I have to mark my territory for things that I know next to nothing about." Faaaaaaantastic. Never has so much been said with so little information. The US media is rubbing off on people in all the wrong ways.
Lastly, crush the serf who dares oppose me, set fire to his land, rape his women, and steal his livestock. If I’m going to be in this, I may as well find a way to enjoy myself. The blood of my enemies is a sweet, succulent ambrosia. I may be using ‘enemy’ a little loosely.
