I’m not sure they could have made the start any more homoerotic.

Impressions:

So the latest xxxHOLiC OVA fastforwards us half a decade into the future, past the conclusion of TRC and Yuuko’s death, to Watanuki now trapped in the store, sleeping with the little girls, wearing Yuuko’s clothes, and showing off copious amounts of leg to his husband after a hard day of winning the bread. Watanuki’s enthusiasm for his vegetables also rivals a frustrated sexless housewive’s burning desire for a cucumber. Clearly, Doumeki is not fulfilling his husbandly role. I think Kohane’s job is to be Doumeki’s beard. Or maybe Watanuki’s. Hell, maybe Mokona’s. I can’t even follow Clamp’s bizarre pairings anymore, particularly since they decided to introduce clones that are their own grandfathers.

In any case, this was pretty dull, even by xxxHOLiC standards. The vast majority of the episode was Watanuki and Doumeki sitting around and talking followed by more talking… followed by more talking. Kohane provided a decent break to the overwhelming homoerotic underpinnings overpinnings, but there’s only so much entertainment to be taken from 40 straight minutes of Watanuki and Doumeki. There wasn’t even a case or a visitor to the store either. They just talked about Yuuko and the pipe fox. Somebody throw a pie!
