Working!! #04 — A Broken Family

April 25th, 2010

I would have no issues with his sisters displacing the entire main cast.

Impressions:

This episode was a little more ADHD than usual. It started off by introducing one of Takanashi’s sisters, dropped her entirely as soon as it hit the OP to focus on Souma, the information broker of the group, popped off him to probe the Satou/Kyouko/Yachiyo love triangle straight line, stopped over on study time, before settling down with about six minutes of introduction to the rest of the Katanashi clan before jumping back to Inami (boo) and then a timeskip to Valentine’s Day. The fact that there’s a Takanashi Kazue and a Takanashi Kozue is already annoying me.

I’m not really happy with how they went with Souma’s character. Thus far, he strikes me as a slightly more idiot-savant savant-idiot version of Takanashi without any of the weird ticks, so he’s just another clueless character who puts his foot in his mouth every other sentence for the sake of a bad joke… or gets beat up by the relentless all-consuming fun-vampire of the show known as Inami. The Takanashi family might be okay, but each one was literally about 50 seconds of introducing their gimmick before hopping over to the next. They spent more time talking about microbes in the first episode than they did on any of them.

Well, I guess I’m sticking with this one on Sundays mostly inertia and the fact that I can’t get the OP out of my head. At least it airs early so it’s right there when I wake up. That’s more of a plus than you’d think.

The fun-vampire strikes.

    I thought you liked violence.

  • Aex says:

Aww, seeing as he’s the only guy in the family, I thought Takanashi’s sisters were all gonna have the usual unnatural attachment to him, but it looks like only his little sis is like that. Lame.

And now we have the extortionist of the series in Souma. With all the weirdness in that restaurant, I actually find Inami the most appealing. She’s also kinda cute. Either way, those people working together could seriously take over the city…

I LOVE the androphobic Inami! It’s amusing whenever she shows up. Personally I think she’s the only tsundere that hasn’t annoyed the hell out of me.
Also the OP is still playing in my head… that song is infectious.

The Opening also got to me and I think the Ending is getting to me.
