The Idiot, Tests, and Summoned Beasts #04 — Lunch is a Battlefield

January 27th, 2010

Great. Now I’ve got Pat Benatar stuck in my head.

Impressions:

It can happen suddenly. Any time. Any where. You’re just minding your own business when… SUDDENLY, KUGIMIYA RIE STRIKES.

An okay episode, but the start dragged a lot thanks to the rather uninspired and repetitive visuals. They really made sure to get their money’s worth out of this little screen, despite the whole thing looking ridiculous. Who lines up shoulder to shoulder and then has a conversation? Himeji’s terrible cooking joke also dragged on for at least two or three minutes longer than it needed to without a decent punchline to the whole sordid affair. I was also a little surprised that Minami’s little sister Hazuki didn’t really do much of anything. She showed up to deliver Minami’s lunches and then was just there for most of the rest of the episode.

At any rate, the focus was on Minami this week, but a lot of it was her just angsting around and then cockblocking herself at her big moment before being yaoi cockblocked. Predictibly though, since Yoshii didn’t get anyting to eat from any of his other girl/boyfriends, he ended up with Minami’s food after all and the status quo was restored to normal through the double double rotating tsundere boxed lunch social dance. Minami really missed the double lutz on that one. The East German judge was not impressed.

WHAT THE HECK!? What’s special about Yoshii~kun anyway?

Ultimately, Kugimiya gets me arrow~struck again in the heart.

    • Anonymous says:

He’s special because he’s the main character.

      • Yue says:

That’s taking it towards the 4th Dimension. Aside from a corporeal chibi powers, Yoshii~kun is simplistic both in looks and mental capacity. ~_~

Isn’t it baffling? Wait, am I thinking too deeply into this when this show is an absolute no~brainer?

Meh, I’m likely to buy it seeing how she knew him prior to the series’s setting. Pink-haired girl on the other hand, I’m less likely to accept.

But yeah, it’s probably best not to choose these kinds of shows for interpretive reasoning.

One episode closer to the swimsuit/onsen episode…

  • Buddy says:

Does Hideyoshi get a lot of exposure in the swimsuit episode?

  • Anise Punter says:

I’m confused with what Rie Kugimiya has to do with this post apart from having the most annoying voice in the history of television, making me want to punch myself in the face. I don’t recall seeing her name in the credits or anything.

    *punts Kugimiya*

I can’t believe how much I’m enjoying this series.

I’d eat Himeji’s lunch, but there’s not really a way to type that with its literal meaning without it appearing like a double, triple, or convoluted Klein Bottle entendre.

Also, I’m hoping against a swimsuit/onsen episode, but I’m usually the only one.

  • Nazarielle says:

I didn’t see Kugimiya anywhere in the credits :o

I thought for a few minutes that the yuri drillhair girl was KugiRie, but it doesn’t look like that’s the case either.

    • Aroduc says:

*shrug* Okay, so maybe I mistook some nobody’s irritating voice for her. Oh well. NOT GONNA EDIT IT OUT, cause I’m crazy like that.

      • Anise Punter says:

Oh snap, it’s like it’s your blog or something.

You’ve gone off the deep end, good sir, totally off the deep end!

Here’s hoping that Kugimiya doesn’t get anywhere near this series -_-

  • Fate says:

Somehow this series remains immensely entertaining for me.
