Hekiyoh’s Student Council #04 — Deja Vu

October 23rd, 2009

Didn’t they do this before? Ah well, let’s run with it.

Impressions:

I think they just took the first couple minutes of episode 1 and stretched them out to cover an entire episode. While I certainly could have done without the Strike Witches parody (curse you, Gonzo!), it was another hilarious episode all around. The Shiina obsession with Ken’s imagined brother(s) is all kinds of disturbing, whether it’s as his ultimate rival in a sci-fi future, or his forbidden love affair. Silly sisters. As much as I like Chizuru, she was a bit lame this week. Her story was pretty much another one of the sadomasochistic affairs that we’ve been seeing since week 1. I like her a lot still, but she’s starting to turn out to be a pretty flat (personality-wise) character compared to the rest. Ken’s story was also lame, but it got a few points for having a room with a shower, kitchen, and tanning lamp all set up to hit the major fanservice archetypes. I’m surprised that Mafuyu didn’t have a pile of banana peels to slip on.

The second half turned from just writing an article/story full-on into various mediums with a number of rapid-fire jumps between parodies. Strike Witches for animation, K-On for music, Mafuyu’s Seitokai RPG (LLRRLLRRLRLRLRRL), and finally they just shot a promo of themselves. I’m kind of surprised that Deen didn’t just use that as a promo for the show (assuming they had it finished way back then), but the corny music and all the cliche shots made me chuckle at least. We didn’t even really have any overly saccharine moment to end on this week either. Nobody learned a valuable lesson at all! Go Joe!

Exceedingly Brief Summary:

Kurimu wants to improve the council’s public appearance, so she’s stuck Ken with the job of writing something up. The others ‘contribute’ their own ideas of things they like, but that goes nowhere. They switch gears to try animation, but that’s takes too much effort, and Kurimu tries to fake them being a band with a CD player unsuccessfully. Finally, they find a camcorder in the room and Ken gets the idea to shoot a promotional video of them. They film it and are all thrilled with how it turns out and vow to redouble their efforts to be awesome. However, the next day, everybody’s back to their lazy ways.
