Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Rei #04 — Collapse

June 12th, 2009

This was a bloody disgrace.

Impressions:

Man, what a godawful arc this has been. This episode literally takes place in two rooms and is just an endless parade of exposition from start to finish. I only included 44 caps because when I went through the MPlayer dump, that was what I came up with on the first pass. Most 24 minute episodes, I end up with somewhere between 70 and 100 or so on the first pass. For a 30 minute episode, I ended up with 44. There was literally absolutely nothing to see here, so I’m putting my foot down… and you can still see the constant and blatant reuse.

They could have done the entire first half of the episode using nothing but recycled art from the last episode, and that one was awful too. Honestly. If they’re not going to animate BLOODY ANYTHING, then what’s the point of even having an ANIMATED adaptation? At least if you play the game, you’ll get the full story. Here, you get margnally better (but still static) art, and a mangled half-assed version of the story that does its damnedest to sidestep the central conflict at every single opportunity. Freakin’ great.

At least the preview for the final Daybreak episode looked entertaining enough. Not that I care all that much about that story aside from the memories of water-gunning down punks back when the real Daybreak came out, but it is back to the silliness, which has been the only redeeming part of Rei so far. There was also more animation in that 30 second preview than there was in the other 1770 seconds of this episode.

Preview:

Maybe DEEN was saving all their moneys for Umineko…

    I hope…

    • Kaisos says:

This might actually be true, given how ridiculously popular it is.

      Better be true.

  • sdfsdfsd says:

But still, they shouldn’t have gimped out on Saikoroshi.

So let me get this straight. You’ve already read the VN of this arc, but you expected something else from the show? @__@

But I agree, the VN is better. Adaptations are always going to suck. But the fact that your blog posts uses rage-creating-style of writing.. While you already knew the story and how its gonna be.. is just…

    @______@

    • Ian says:

Adaptations don’t ALWAYS suck. They’re just not quite the same.

    • Wow says:

      THANK YOU
this person has no taste better then one of those crits with a foot up their ass.
They get all pissed off over an adaptation.

  • sdfsdfsd says:

I read it too, and they certainly missed out on a couple things.

  • Wow says:

Honest to god your expectations are high. Sure its great your some blog person, but your just rampaging on the most ridiculous things, who the hell cares if they recycle animation from pervious episodes. I dont. Your just too picky and need to let loose, if your such a critic and cant stand it so much stop blogging on it. dear god.

    • Nanaya says:

Isn’t that the *point* of this blog? Saying stuff as clearly and bluntly as he wants, I mean?

I mean, sure, you could shower shits and giggles for every series that comes around, but that’s way to common. I seriously don’t get why people get personally offended when someone actually critiques a series when it cuts corners/gets lazy/messes up/etc…

      • Wow says:

Because, this person acts all high and mighty like they could produce a better adaptation/anime then this. Like honestly, recycling animation. REALLY? It saves them money, and most likely using that money on Umineko too.
But I doubt Umineko isnt good enough for him..

        P.S Aroduc.
When have nothing to say thats like, an argumenitive point other then pointing out spelling and grammar issues. Your terrible at arguing.
Well- thats what my debate/lecture class taught us anyways. But that probly wouldn’t be good ’nuff for you either LOL

  • Aroduc says:

It’s okay. My feelings aren’t hurt. Although I do think he dealt a harsh blow to the English language.
