Minami-ke: Welcome Back #11 — Naked Time at the Minami’s

March 15th, 2009

It gets in the bath or it gets the hose.

Impressions:

Well, they can’t all be as good as last week, but this one was especially dull. I’m not sure why they decided to introduce a new bring back an old character ignored for the last 20 episodes or so this late in the run, but she’s already in as many episodes as Hitomi. Why did they even bother to add her to the OP if she’s going to have a grand total of 7 minutes of screen time through the entire run? Anyway, back to the episode, there really just were very few actual jokes, and certainly next to nothing that would elicit more than a chuckle in even the least discerning of audiences. Lots of people being embarassed through their imaginations through the first half, but nothing they imagined was visualized. There’s a reason "show, don’t tell" is a cornerstone of good writing, but that’s a rant better saved for Index wrapup.

Part 1 introduced a couple new characters from Kana’s class, most notably Hiroko, who reminds me a lot of a slightly brighter Uchida with a reporter slant. She tries to get Riko to practice confessing to Fujioka. Part 2 was mostly centered around a study session for the middle schoolers with a special emphasis on them all being too embarassed to use the bath, so took showers instead, which was a good thing since Kana’s a moron. Part 3 was just Riko daydreaming about doing well on the test and spending time with Fujioka as a tutor or teacher. Breaking away from Riko for the final part, just a quick little Valentines thing. I’m not sure there actually was a single joke during this portion.

Warm places.

5 Shouts From the Peanut Gallery

Hiroko has been there since season 1, she is been simply criminally underused; she is something like Yuu’s pimp. She is voiced by Chiba Saeko, who does Hayami-senpai too.

    Loved the bath bit.

Really? I don’t remember her at all. *shrug* Guess that just proves your point.

What was that with Valentine’s, again? And I see the preview’s designed to lure Stripey into watching the show.

And wasn’t Hiroko the girl who encouraged the previous ‘banchou’ (the one who inherited it from the person who inherited it from Haruka) to give the position over to Fujioka?

Yes, there was. The music during Riko’s teacher fantasy was the theme music for the movie ” Forbidden Games ”

I leave it up to you to connect the word forbidden and the teacher-student relationship.
