Yozakura Quartet #04 — The Three Monkeys

October 23rd, 2008

The booby prize for vomitting ramen.

Sorry if this is a bit brief. I’m functioning off of two hours of sleep and need a nap badly.

Impressions:

A lot of focus on our villain, Enjin this week. Apparently he used to hang out with Hime and Akina quite a bit… or at the very least, the body of Gin did, which Enjin seems to have suborned, or something. Gin’s soul still lives/burns/whatever, or so he claims, though his body did try to strangle itself, so there’s at least something wacky still going on in there. Hime’s still carrying a torch for Gin too for that matter. The other villain that got let into the city is slightly less interesting, though calls himself a halfbreed and the same as Kotoha, so maybe she’ll get some development and/or matched up against him soon. I really want her to do a bit more with her power. For being able to summon nigh unto anything, she hasn’t really done much since the first episode. I’d also like to see more of the sword nun. After the preview, I was expecting at least some action out of her. Instead, all she did was cut a car in half that Enjin idly tossed in her direction.

The art and animation looked like to took a pretty significant hit this week… and it’s not like last week’s rocket dog was particularly impressive to begin with. Young Hime just looked bad all around, even taking into account her various facial distortions from choking on food, and I’m not even sure what was really up with that scene between Ao and Touka at the start. Things settled down a little bit, but if they were going for crazy during the rooftop showdown with the tongues lolling, it passed me by completely. The shota in a baseball cap looked crazier than the supposedly evil guy now running around town.
