Kyouran Kazoku Nikki #21 — Santa’s Power Level is Off the Charts

August 30th, 2008

I refuse to say it!

Impressions:

Well, while it’s not quite as strange as last week’s adventures with Vitamin C and attempted fratricide, this one was still pretty bizarre. A few parts were great, but the overall story and Kyouka’s behavior in general was painfully cliche and predictable. Most of the episode is basically just a knock off of Nightmare Before Christmas, only with Santa’s vaguely evil, mostly just whiny granddaughter sobbing over the fact that Santa doesn’t spend Christmas with her. Wah, girl. Wah. I’m not even certain I caught her name, unless it really was Santako, which is what Kyouka was calling her. I don’t think she’ll show up again anyway.

There were a few amusing parts, most of the big Santa battle at the end was bizarre enough to entertain me, though Robot Chicken did a pretty similar thing about two years ago. I think it would have been a lot more entertaining had Raichou been involved somewhere. This kind of chaos seems right up her alley. I was also a little confused by Kyouka seemingly delivering presents to child soldiers. Is this some kind of strange tangential political awareness message mixed into an episode about a megalomaniacal catgirl fighting a burly Santa because of a black clad girl Santa? The mind boggles.

Preview:

None of these people are Raichou. Color me disappointed.

Why? but why there’s no Raichou?!!!! When will se do something?!!!! ;_; *sob* *sob*

I’d think that Raichou’s not being involved in Chaos is due to the fact that she’s doing it by PROXY; not only is she the current head of the Supernatural Phenomena Countermeasure Bureau, but she’s also been shown as a supporter of the Cozy Family Operation… Which spreads chaos pretty well on its own.

Whether that shows incredible cunning, or whether Raichou is really an airless ditz, is up to the viewer to decide on.
