Zero no Sex Dreams #04 — What Does the Maid Do?

July 27th, 2008

The maid watches.

Impressions:

This was space filler of the lowest possible quality. My standards are already pretty low for this show… tune in… turn brain off… soak up the explosions and thigh/breast meat. Not healthy, but something to do on a Sunday afternoon after yardwork or something similar. This though… a character introduced this episode learns a valuable life lesson about not being a racist and then Tif asks Saito to grope her to check if her chest is real… and apparently passes out during the breast examination. This was one public service announcement away from being a double whammy Saturday morning special about the importance of not being a racist and breast cancer exams.

I did find Louise’s escalating sexual fantasies about Saito amusing, but wondered why Siesta was in the room watching her through all of them. It was my understanding that at least a fair amount of time passed between breakfast, classes starting, and the fight in the courtyard between Beatrice’s goons and Saito’s knuckleheads, the entire time, Louise was fantasizing about Saito and Siesta was watching her fantasize. Apparently that’s Siesta’s role in the Saito x Louise dynamic… she watches them. I do have to wonder where Siesta sleeps. Apparently Saito’s still stuck in Louise’s room, which would seem to me to mean that the maid has a better room than her master. Couldn’t Saito just swap rooms with her?

What else… Beatrice is a terrible character, and since they gave her a name and spent about 5 minutes puffing around how important her kingdom is, I can only imagine that we haven’t seen the last of her, but I can hope. My eyes almost rolled out of my head when she chucked herself into Tif’s throw pillows at the end after Louise taught them all a valuable lesson about being a bitch. You’re one to talk, dearie. I also still despise the now sycophantic nobles, draping themselves all over Saito after spending two seasons berating him for not understanding a noble. At least they’re sticking true to the whole "nobles are jackasses" theme.

Oh hey, remember that all the other mages have familiars too? The writers just did!

Damnit,Why are there seemingly only two character archetypes in these pseudo harem animes, IE “frail dishwater doormat” & “Heroic moron with morals that bend easily to the one P-whipping him”. Seriously, wheres the Harem anime with the guy who has an IQ above room temperature?

Also, what happened to Saito’s so called mastery of all weapons? Why does he limit himself to one crappy sword? He needs some of those flint lock pistols and and throwing knives.

  • wheres the Harem anime with the guy who has an IQ above room temperature?

Hanaukyo Maid Team La Verite. Hand Maid May.

wheres the Harem anime with the guy who has an IQ above room temperature?

In Tenchi Muyo, in Code Geass, in Utawarerumono….NOT here

  • Aroduc says:

No love for the original harem-master, Ranma?

  • Ryugan koji says:

al least ranma had more chances to prove his fighting skills than saito, and prove all the love form his own harem saido not sou much…except for the final chapters of the 2 seasones…the rest of it….lets face it he havent show anyting more

i agree whit jacknape, when in the first season show that he could figth whit any weapon i visualize an saito/archer from fate using bows, axes, lances, maces all the sposibilites that the louse world had to offer but…..how may weapons had he use?…sword…rocketlauncher and the zero….and the most of all are from our world…id dont know if other people agree whit me XD

Psd: sorry for the bad engrish non english native speaker XP

  • KyuubiJinchuuriki says:

I’m still waiting for the Harem anime with a guy that has enough balls to tell them he’ll go out with all of them.

And was Utawarerumono really a Harem Anime? It was one of the top 2 animes ever though!

And don’t Dis Derflinger a magical sword that can teleport me away from danger = way better than a throwing knife. But Saito should definetly train with practice weapons more and should have back-up plans. Louise needs to quit being jealous all the time and lashing out on Saito!!! Maybe they can bring in other mail character(s) familiars or something for the other girls since Saito need to be with Louise.

    #2:
As the weapon of the legendary Gandalfr, Derflinger is a magical sword with some rather nifty abilities, such as the ability to absorb magic, which makes it superior to other weaponry of the same type. As for firearms, the very outdated forms used in their world are more than likely similarly inferior. This doesn’t extend to artifacts from our world, which he does not hesitate to use when chanced upon.

    #6:
Archer’s skill with Unlimited Blade Works is derived from more than just the ability to gain the experience and skill of his weapons’ original users; it’s primarily the sheer amount and quality of the weapons (think Gilgamesh). Compare this to Saito’s situation where all he has access to is run-of-the-mill weaponry.

As for comments on Saito’s character, I will never understand why it is that he’s so obsessed with Louise, but the anime makes him (and everyone else really) out to be a lot more shallow than portrayed in the novels.

  • Captain Jackanape says:

Me again, as sad as I am to say that I’ve never read any of the novels, and only the anime series. (honestly I only read a very select few manga right now due to time constraints added with my addiction to first person shooters and writing) From what I understand this story could be a lot more, honestly I think Saito needs a good male rival, and not some sorry sap of a joke character, someone who he can really compare himself with in terms of attributes and abilities. (someone smart, but socially less adept than saito, along with maybe a more vicious personality while still sitting in the realms of “good guy”)

But what can I say? Anime’s have been pretty stale on character development area recently and fairly predictable as well (guy comes to world, guy finds girl(s), guy gets manly, end result, manly (yet still undecisive about which tail to slam) idiot male character.

While I can’t say I don’t like Saito, he definitely ticks me off in how his character seems to bend far to easily to almost every situation he comes in contact with (dealing with the fact he has a pink haired bi-polar brat for a master… and liking it *shudder*, dealing with a class based social system, then turning his back on his original ideals simply because a “friend” said its a great “honor”, crap he original said was forfeit, etc).

Also, finally, if anyone’s wondering why I don’t go into the female cast or any of the supporting cast, is because they’re all very standard, you have the typical girl harem (the busty lusty (comes in two flavors, rich and servant), the quiet nerd with a near no emotional feedback, the stuck up bitch with a secret crush (see “tsunundre”), and lets not forget the all encompassing ditz). As for the male cast, well, they don’t really do anything rather than show up. But over all, it seems none of them grow at all, which is sad, considering it would be awesome if some of the characters actually became something other than there original archetypes.

Sorry, just needed to vent a little today. Anywho, Tl;Dr, Show needs some better writers, much potential is still there.

i was wanting to ask… did tiffany really like saito? if she does she is the 3rd character of saito’s harem. I’m still wondering if princess/queen henrietta will be added into his harem. (sry if i spell wrong or remember wrongly.)

overall a fun episode if u ask me~

  • Aroduc says:

Tif’s honestly too dumb to understand likes or dislikes at the moment. She’s like a giant chested 4 year old.

  • Captain Jackanape says:

thats really too much credit aroduc, Id morely equate her to a lamp-post with some oranges ductaped on to it.

  • Aroduc says:

Nah. Lamp posts don’t anger me.

  • Myssa Rei says:

Given the fact that Tifania’s a (insert D&D cliches here) half elf, she very well may be a (emotional) four-year old.

  • Aroduc says:

I still prefer to think of her as dumb as a brick.

Well… given the rest of the cast… dumb as a halfbrick.

  • sage says:

    She’s like a giant chested 4-year old.

That’s not the body of a 4 year old.

    Also, mind of a 4-year old? …OPPORTUNITY.

“Hey, young lady, want some candy?”

“Oh you liked the candy? Well, there’s more candy in my van over there in the dense forest…”

  • Webos says:

dudes….I don’t get why Saito doesn’t just tell Louise to re-summon him somehow, go back to his world, stock up on every modern fire-arm, several different types of jet fighters, a stealth bomber, attack helicopters, huge stock of fuel and ammunition, body armor, tanks, everything. Fill up a warehouse with all of it, then fill up another with an aircraft carrier and several nuclear submarines, some nuclear warheads, tomohawk missiles, and all the other good stuff. Get himself an entire team of navy seals and THEN, have himself get resummoned with all of the above mentioned stuff.

He will pwn so hard, none will survive. I would start by tying Louise up and throwing her into a basement, then banging all of those big-breasted lamp-posts that love Saito secretly. I would then tell all the nobles to shove it up their primitive asses, tell them their religions suck, tell them their society is primitive, and flaunt my advanced technological superiority and make them understand that it’s technology, not magic, and then make them my t-bag slaves.
