Kanokon #12 — At Last, This International Nightmare Ends
June 21st, 2008
Spatula++
Impressions:
This is how Kanokon ends? Chizuru gets sad because Kouta won’t say that he likes her, then he gets up the courage to say it and things return to normal. Well, I suppose I shouldn’t be overly surprised and I did get a chuckle out of trying to name all of Tayura’s dances. The easy ones were HachiGuu, Shin-chan, and the various Michael Jackson moves. Otherwise though, a very boring ending all around.
At least there was another spatula.
Brief brief brief final thoughts at the bottom.
Final Thoughts:
It’s rare that a show makes me long for the subtle nuances of storytelling and comedy that… say… Nagasarete Airantou or even Ninomiya possessed, but Kanokon certainly succeeded there. In fact, I almost don’t regret watching it because I think I’ll now appreciate other comedies all the more. It really was nothing more than watching a train wreck in motion for day one, and after 3 months of watching it burn, it got rather old. That the raws drifted in appearance from late Friday night when I had nothing to do to Saturday, which already has three shows I’d much rather watch and two to cover certainly didn’t help matters either.
It’s not horrendously awful if you accept it as a vapid mindless T&A barrage, but at the same time, I’d still recommend shows like Girls Bravo, Umisho or hell, even Debby Does Dallas over it. I suppose if you’re looking to add to the spatula count though, this is probably the best show out there this season… And that’s the highest praise that I’m willing to give it.
