Minami-ke Okawari #11 — The Girl Who Cried Wolf

March 16th, 2008

Ewwww… snotty.

Impressions:

Kana pretends to be sick off and on for most of the episode to get out of work and other things. Fujioka comes over to visit and sees Touma in girl’s clothes… prompting Kana to try to strip him and force him into a girl’s school uniform. Then there was a lot of caring for ‘sick’ Kana while she faked symptoms and tried to keep Chiaki from spilling the beans. Then the next day, she actually was sick. Various people, including Minami Kramer show up to help Kana try to get better in record time through medicines and such. Kana is eventually forced to confess everything in tears. She hugs Chiaki and gets her all snotty while the shrimp pats her on the head and forgives her. How touching. There was a short part after that too about Kana trying to settle things once and for all with Fujioka. He didn’t understand as usual, so started walking away, and she tried to suplex him. A suplex without any lifting power is just a hug though, so Fujioka went off into his own little dream world.

Not a bad episode, but a terribly formulaic one. Within the first thirty seconds, it was pretty obvious that Kana really would get really sick blah blah blah cliche stories are cliche for a reason. It was just a question of whether it would be the punchline or the entire content. Kramer Mako-chan made his/her usual shoehorned-in appearance as well. So did dumb Fuyuki for that matter. What was the point of him running into Haruka and Chiaki while shopping again? I’ve already completely forgotten what they even talked about. He wasn’t even the part of any joke… he was just hanging around the apartment. Doesn’t the guy have any other friends? Or at least some guy friends? I did rather like the Fujioka bit at the end, but the rest of the episode was just a bit too predictable for my tastes. Well, aside from this freaky pair of shots. What the hell is going on with Kana’s blanket there? Consistency, people… consistency!

Oh yeah… and what ever happened to Haruka going abroad? Did the writers just forget entirely that they introduced that and had Haruka mull it over for the better part of an episode?

Him? Don’t you mean ‘her’ for Touma? :D And I think the reason Haruka’s missing is because they felt bad that Fuyuki got no screentime for a few episodes… or something. I suspect this would’ve been better with more Haruka and no Fuyuki. And more Mako-chan being.. ‘assisted’.

Still, I’m glad to see the old eyecatch back. But with almost no Haruka, no Hosaka, and Fuyuki… it was a failure.

  • […] sick sucks! I would have used a certain saying for this episode, but someone already got to it before me. This episode was all around a great combination of themed slice of […]

The “him” in that sentence refers to Fujioka. Kana tries to get him in drag as an explanation for Touma’s clothes, i.e. she feels like putting guys in drag today.

She’s certainly fond of that activity, it would seem.
