Minami-ke Okawari #10 — Prince Water is Delicious

March 9th, 2008

Liquor makes the artists drunk.

Impressions:

After a long and not particularly interesting beginning, the group decides to go flower viewing (remember that it’s still winter) because Chiaki misheard what Kana and Haruka’s friends were talking about (‘hanami’ – flower viewing instead of I believe ‘harumi’ – pregnancy… I think… I was tuning out and didn’t feel compelled to rewind to make sure). They also played with a cat for awhile. The girls invite all their friends, including Makoto… who, like an idiot, shows up in drag. Everybody splits up to be all organized… there’s some gender bending fun since Makoto and Touma end up looking for the spot with the guys. Then Hayami showed up at the house with bags and bags of cheap liquor and that was the end of the upper classmen cooking brigade. Fujioka also walked past Hosaka, who was strangely mumbling to himself. Kana was sent to fetch Haruka, but ended up transferring Harumi’s treats to the rest of the group while Chiaki went to fetch Haruka. In the end, everybody was drunk but Kana, Fujioka, and lame-ass Fuyuki. There was a short after-story type deal where Kana stole Chiaki’s food, Chiaki got depressed, and then Kana pulled out the extra foodstuffs and everybody was happy. THRILLING.

Yeah… this was not one of the more exciting episodes. Heavy on the slice of life people sitting around and chatting, light on most everything else… including the art budget this week. There were some dreadfully drawn scenes. Maybe they were experimenting with new facial expressions or something, but it looked awful. There was also a point where Chiaki and Atsuko had their hands up next to eachother. One of them had fingers. The other did not. You would think someone would notice that Chiaki is now some kind of seal creature with flippers instead of hands. At least for an episode with Fuyuki in it, he didn’t have too many lines. I also note that they’re really pushing Makoto on us in the home stretch here. Not that I mind, but he was pretty much totally absent for the first half of the show and these days he’s like Kramer… only in drag.

More Makoto… see?

Dude, when are you going to put up the spring preview. I need to know whats going to show besides Code Geass R2 Whick will rocl.lol

  • Aroduc says:

A week from tomorrow. Nothing starts until April 3rd… so it’s still almost a full month away.

  • Haesslich says:

That’s Hayami-senpai who drags out the booze… since there is no Harumi, IIRC.

And ohthankHaruhi we’re back to the old Minami-ke eyecatches… even if drunk Touma and Bible Black-Mako-chan… aren’t the most exciting things to look at.

  • Aroduc says:

    Names schmames. ^^;

  • Haesslich says:

And you’re right about the Harami joke. My mistake.

  • Haesslich says:

But yes…. Kana remembers Episode 13 of last season very, very well to judge by her expression:

    *imagines Kramer in drag*

    …I hate you.

  • Haesslich says:

sage: It’s your fault for imagining Kramer in drag, rather than just referring to Mako-chan as a ‘has to be there’ character (a la Kramer). Besides, didn’t he do that once already? At least he didn’t suggest imagining Newman in drag dancing with George.

  • Haesslich says:

Incidentally, did anyone else here think that Chiaki in some of those shots above was horribly cute in the ‘she really IS still a kid’ sorta way? Examples include how she looked after Kana revealed that not all of the ramen was consumed as well as the part after Maki showed up… but before everyone got plastered during the ‘hanami’ event.

Between that and episodes like Ep 10 of the last season (I think that was the ‘Yamada’ episode), she still gets some ‘kid time’… which is a nice change from her usual grumpy, ‘grown up’ attitude.
