Amazing Blah Blah Blah Labyrinth #25 — Seeya, Shotaboy

March 26th, 2008

I barely even remember why I started following this.

Final Thoughts:

So… I figure that I should say something ‘lest this show fade off into the sunset without a sound… which it does somewhat deserve to do. I will admit, that I enjoyed it quite a bit at the start, especially matched up against Night Wizard on Tuesdays. Both shows were so full of cheeseball antics that it was just fun all around. Of course, Night Wizard also had fun characters, action, and while it shared the obsession with tea, Anzelot was far easier on the eyes than Mayuki. Of course… Night Wizard didn’t have heat seeking rollerskating zombies or sandworms. Man… one paragraph in and I’m already talking about other shows.

That’s really where a lot of the problems with Labyrinth lie. It has a deceptively huge cast and almost all of them are shallow and uninteresting. Seiran and Byakko are the only ones with any real depth to them, but they’re still carved out of archetypes that have been around for decades without any even remotely unique twist. The melodrama also got rather excessive in the later going. Combine that with slowly decaying production values through the entire show and a plot so nonsensical that the sandworms and rollerskating zombies almost seem to be perfectly acceptable and… well… I’m not entirely certain what you’d get. Magical boys and three brothers each with magical girl slaves who fight via drifting stills. Yeah, it wasn’t really a fighting show, but it wasn’t exactly much of anything else either.

So, in the end, meh. MEH. Extremely meh. It was fun when there were zombies and the big mystery that stopped the super sleuths in their tracks was a folding cardboard fence. You could laugh at that. Not laugh with them, but you were still laughing. I feel a little sad that my adorable Horie Yui got I think her first ‘badass’ role since Jubei-chan and it was wasted on this, but oh well.

At the end, Byakko survive? Oh well, I agree with Aroduc about everything related to this show.

Who knows. When Seiju when nuclear she decided to hang with him and go up in generic flames right alongside him.
