Higurashi no Naku Koro Ni Kai #15 — Matsuribayashi-Hen Part 2

Mmmmmm… badass Horie Yui vocals….
Impressions:
Absolutely awesome ending to the episode. In fact, I’d even suggest that you just skip right to after the ED for maximum enjoyment. The rest of the episode was just plodding and totally uninteresting. We get it, Dr Takano was researching Hinamizawa Syndrome, people didn’t believe him, and Crazy Takano is off in her own diseased little twisted world. This was all pretty well laid out last episode, minus her actually making her way to Dr Takano’s. Another 20 minutes on it was just tiresome. Still, badass Horie Yui voices are something to be savored, like a delicious chardonnay. She doesn’t get nearly enough of them, and instead ends up all too often as a moeblob or the queen of tsunderes.
In fact, I liked that scene so much, that here it is. Very very nice declaration of war between the two all around. I just wish the rest of the episode hadn’t been so dreadfully tedious.
Hanyuu’s Declaration of War
We restart back with mini-Miyo yelling at the heavens for God to kill her. After her ranting is over and the lightning strikes, she sees a tree destroyed just behind her. Miyo starts to laugh and thinks that she’s won. She screamed at God and didn’t blink. She hugs herself, but then hears the voices of the men just behind her and runs again.
She falls down an embankment, but sees a phone booth/shelter just up ahead and goes over to it. She curls up in it and sees a coin on the ground. Flashing back to her father’s dying words about going to Dr Takano to save her, complete with blood coughed onto her face, she uses the phone while picturing her father mouthing ‘sayonara’ to her.
Dr Takano answers on the other end, and Miyo tearily fills him in on what happened to her parents. She yells into the phone for him to save her… but when she finishes… there’s just a dial tone. Outside, a car is coming closer. It stops in front of the phone booth and Takano’s eyes go crazy.
She runs out of it with the wardens chasing her. A hand reaches out and pulls her down. The men stand above her. A few hold her down as she panics. One punches her hard.
Back at the orphanage, the sounds of girls being beaten echoes through the halls as Miyo is dragged to a room. They open the door, and in the darkness, Miyo sees… something… and collapses. The jackass warden stands above her with his thumb bandaged and laughs. She starts screaming her apologies as he drags her off.
Dr Takano looks through an old photo album of himself and Miyo’s father. He picks up the phone and places a call.
The warden drags Miyo into a bathroom stall and then lifts her by the neck. Before he can do anything, the other wardens barge into the room and everybody looks panicked.
The next morning, Miyo is escorted to the front gate and then nudged out. A car window rolls down to show Dr Takano. The two ride together. He draws his name on the window of the car, and Miyo draws her’s.
At Dr Takano’s home, Miyo helps Takano to organize his library. He thanks her, but tells her that it’s time for her to go to bed. She’s got a long day ahead of her tomorrow, new school, teacher, etc etc. She tells him that she’ll study really hard to become more like him and save lots of people. They pinky promise on it.
At some future time, a friend of Takano’s visits them and says how cute Miyo is. They talk for a little while about his research while Miyo flips through one of his books.
The conversation turns to the Hinamizawa Syndrome and how things are progressing there. Takano’s research isn’t really going too great, but he’s confident that he’ll find an answer, and Miyo smiles at hearing this.
The friend leaves and as they see him off, Miyo says how much she wants to help Takano with his work.
Some time later, it’s a nice day. Miyo opens up the window as Takano gets dressed up.
A bunch of men in business suits come to the door and Takano lets them in. Miyo goes to bring them some tea, but when she opens the door, she finds Takano somewhat distressed and trying to convince them that the Hinamizawa disease is a real thing. Even despite his pleadings, they think it’s all a huge joke.
Speaking of him, he’s in a meeting with another man who thanks him for his hard work, but orders him to cease and desist all inquiries into Hinamizawa.
Back with Dr Takano, the men get ready to leave. They drop his report on the ground and step on it. Miyo flips out and grabs his leg, saying how hard Takano is trying. Takano slaps her and apologizes for her behavior and tells the men that he’ll work harder on it and have a better case next time. Miyo still doesn’t understand and starts to cry.
Miyo starts throwing herself into her studies to prove to everybody that Takano’s research is real. She eventually graduates from college with high marks. She’s even kept in touch with the man who used to work with Dr. Takano on the Hinamizawa stuff. After she hangs up, she looks over at the picture of Dr. Takano and says to herself that nobody will get in their way ever again. She’ll definitely make sure that he becomes a legend.
After the ED, Adult Miyo visits the Hinamizawa Shrine. She throws a coin in, but it hangs in the air and is then blasted backwards at her. She looks up to see Hanyuu staring at her with demonic eyes. Takano figures out that she’s the local god. Hanyuu says that she has had enough. Fate has given her the will to win. She will create a miracle to crush fate and everybody won’t lose to her.
Takano tries to outcrazy the demon and laughs at this, saying that this is just fine. Now they can see who will be the strongest.
