Tokyo Majin Gakuen Kenpucho #21 — Crawling in My Skin

These wounds! They will not heal!

I’m not certain I’ll stay with this posting style, but I’ll try it for a day or two and see how it feels. If you especially like it or hate it, just leave a comment here or back on where I was ruminating on updating the layout.

Impressions:

Man, that was a very very full episode. Chaos used his power to drive Hiyuu and everybody else nuts, and then forced a confrontation with them all. I’m a little disappointed that he seemed to just be screwing around with them because he’s a sociopath, but whatever gets his little arc finished sooner. We also get none too subtle clues about who the other godbeasts are… Marie, Daigo, Alan, and Kisaragi. Somewhat unexpected I suppose, but makes sense with our little pyrotechnic witch being the firebird Suzaku and ninja Kisaragi being the turtle Genbu (leaving Alan, the most random of the bunch, as the dragon, Seiryu) with Hiyuu in the middle. We also see that the coroner who has been a bit character is a bit more evil than he lets on. I’m still waiting for them to reveal that Marie is a vampire after her demon eyes an episode or two ago, not to mention Inugami’s… well… his name is “Dog God…” it’s not like it’s hidden.

Hiyuu thanks his parents for the strawberries and thanks them for all the fun they had as we see shots of town, including the blood splattered alley, ending with Hiyuu walking alone as a camera watches him. Wheelchair boy is watching him on his computer while munching on cookies from his friend.

Time passes through Tokyo as a man walks through the city. Zooming in on him, we see that it’s Yagyu… and another red star falls behind him.

The Planeteers have regrouped and Komaki is fixing up Aoi while Kyouichi tells the others what happened with Hiyuu.

Everybody thinks that he’s losing control of his power like Daigo did. Komaki thinks that it make have something to do with Chaos. Everybody decides to split up and search for any clues about what’s going on.

In a graveyard, Hiyuu is shambling around. A yellow dragon charm flashes through his mind and he’s temporarily pained. He remembers his parents and suddenly falls to the ground clutching his arm. He screams in pain as the tatoos cover his face and he starts glowing. Through the city, purple energy in the form of a long serpantine dragon start flowing somewhere.

Komaki and Daigo are looking for Hiyuu and talking about losing control of their power. Daigo suddenly stops and clutches his hand in pain. Elsewhere, Alan (the streetwise breakdancer) also feels a sharp pain in his leg and doubles over. His foot is glowing.

Likewise, Marie and the bartender are crushing strawberries to make something when her foot suddenly starts glowing and she loses her balance. To round out the four directions, Kisaragi’s hand starts glowing as well, though unlike the others, it doesn’t seem to pain him.

Returning to Daigo, he tells Komaki that he’s okay and it’s nothing.

Chaos is sitting in a bath shaking a bottle of soap. He then opens it and pours it down a drain, with some of the cookies from earlier mixed in. He talks about not having a Christmas cake again as he submerges himself in the bath.

Kyouichi is also running through the city, thinking about his fight with Hiyuu. Aoi is doing her own searching in the slums, but finds nothing. Daigo is thinking about when he transformed into a giant angry tiger as he searches. Anko is also searching online and then finds something. Continuing to jump around, Sagaya is calling somebody, Komaki is talking to her parents, and Kisaragi is looking up something about the four cardinal gods while thinking about his hand.

At the police station, they’re discussing how senseless the murder of Hiyuu’s parents was. In the coroner’s office, he’s thinking back to when Hiyuu came to identify his parents. This time we see the coroner’s eyes suddenly change to anger and rage when Hiyuu shows up.

The next day at school, everybody is sad about the death of Hiyuu’s parents. Some guy tells Inugami (who is loafing around outside) about the murder, and that there’s police here to investigate. Inugami looks over and sees the grizzled detective at the gates.

Moving to an alleyway, we see a zonked out Hiyuu sitting on a pile of trash. His eyes are opened, but he doesn’t react when some bum comes up to him. Zooming in on the bum, he has the mark of Chaos on his face as well. Hiyuu notices this and suddenly springs to life, grabbing the bum. The bum loses whatever demonic thing was possessing him and flails helplessly, so Hiyuu drops him. A woman walks by just then and taunts him.

Hiyuu chases her and grabs her shoulder, but she’s shocked. A boy’s voice behind him says that he’s “over here now,” and Hiyuu turns in surprise.

The boy tells him again that he’s right here, and Hiyuu goes to follow, only to be blocked by a woman and her daughter, both with the Chaos marks on them. Hiyuu pushes past them, clutching his head.

He keeps stumbling through the streets, hallucinating (or not?) that everybody has marks of Chaos on them and taunt him as he gets close. He finally loses it and screams. He takes a wild swing at some poor pedestrian, who easily dodges it. Hiyuu keeps screaming and punches a big pole which shatters as he falls to his knees.

In a dark room, a monitor flips on, recording the movements of Kyouichi, Daigo, Komaki and Aoi.

At a restaurant, Ryuuji (Wheelchair boy/Chaos) is being fed cake (on Christmas!) by his ladyfriend. He flips open his cellphone and inputs something as the blocky crazyass rainbow pattern flashes all over it. Something pops up on the monitor from before. He talks on the phone telling someone to hurry up and get there. Cake-feeder wants to know who he was calling, but he tells her it was Santa.

Daigo is still trotting through the city, and starting to hallucinate in the same way as Hiyuu, though doesn’t see the marks of Chaos.

The same thing happens to Komaki, and then Aoi, but Aoi is a bit brighter than Komaki and instead of yelling and making a scene, she figures out that it’s Chaos. Kyouichi is also relatively bright and just sort of ignores the voices.

Anko and Sagaya are totally zombied by their monitor and cellphone respectively.

At the antique shop, Kisaragi senses something and looks outside to see a ton of people swaying and staring at the store, all with the marks of Chaos on them. They taunt him like they did the others and then start walking towards it. Once surrounded, they start throwing molotov cocktails into it and the store catches flame.

Hiyuu stumbles through an alley all alone, let on by the voices. He comes to a chalk outline and sees the alley splattered with blood and realizes that this was where his parents were killed. He starts wailing on the wall in anguish as the voice keeps taunting him.

He stops and notices that Sagaya is standing at the entrance of the alley with the marks of Chaos all over his body.

Kisaragi’s shop is completely engulfed in flames while the firemen just stand around. Marks of Chaos are barely visible on their faces. All the Planeteers are trying to fight their way through the crowd of Chaos marked to get to eachother, but the sheer press of people is preventing them from moving, though they can hear eachother.

Without warning, the entire crowd disperses, forming a half circle around them and leaving them at the entrance to the church. Standing at the entrance is Anko, covered in the Chaos marks. The door opens behind her and she leads them in. Sagaya is standing in front with Hiyuu behind him. Sagaya and Anko suddenly collapse, but Hiyuu continues to just stand there.

There’s a pop and confetti flies through the air. Ryuuji tells them Merry Christmas as they turn around to find him in the wheelchair. He wheels himself forward and introduces himself as Chaos.

Aoi wants to know why he did all this, but Chaos says that there was no real reason. Hiyuu is in pain, and falls down. They ask again what Chaos is doing tormenting Hiyuu, but Chaos says again that he had no real reason and starts ranting about Christmas and how some people don’t deserve what they have.

He starts giving his evil villain speech about how he controlled other people using the cell phone Chaos game, but his real goal was all of them. Hiyuu was the head of them though, so Hiyuu’s parents had to be killed. Shock and surprise! He starts laughing at them while Kyouichi tries to snap Hiyuu out of his funk.

Chaos turns to Hiyuu, who is glaring bloody murder at him, and says that now he’s going to see if Hiyuu can really kill him. He wonders aloud how the others would have reacted… if for example, he had killed a younger sister. Komaki realizes the personal jab and yells at Hiyuu that it’s fine to kill Chaos. Aoi tries to stop her, but she says that if Hiyuu won’t kill him, then she will. Aoi slaps the shit out of Komaki, forehand and backhand for that while Hiyuu starts to pull himself up on Chaos’ wheelchair.

The two keep arguing, until Kyouichi pulls them apart and then turns to Hiyuu, who is now face to face with Chaos. Kyouichi tells Hiyuu to not sink to Chaos’ level.

Hiyuu pulls himself to his feet, and then kicks over Chaos’ wheelchair. Kyouichi and Daigo run up to stop him, but he releases a huge burst of yellow energy, blasting them all back. He kneels over Chaos and raises his fist. Kyouichi yells at him to stop again. Hiyuu remembers that his father told him that his power was to be used to protect those things important to him.

Hiyuu is struggling, and then hears his mother’s voice. Finally he slams his fist down, but stops just above Chaos’ face and starts crying. He clutches his head and cries in anguish. Chaos sits up and asks what the matter was, that was a perfect chance.

Outside, another red comet falls.

The reason Shinsen isn’t subbing it is because its been licensed in the U.S. So were gonna have to wait for someone to do it illegaly.

I like the new layout btw.

  • iiris says:

  • Spectrum says:

Commenting for the first time to say that I like the new layout, makes it easier to match pictures with comments. I still like the video segments you highlight the best, though.

Also, seriously, wtf, I thought that Chaos was a girl the entire time just from the caps. -_-

  • LazyMcChan says:
