Nagasarete Airantou 10

Listen to the rhythm of the falling rain… telling me just a fool Ikuto’s been…

Impressions:

A pretty decent episode, though there were some parts that were very strangely overanimated. Yukino’s little animal race for example… very well animated for about 15 seconds for there not actually being a joke or any point to it really. The background music this episode was also a lot more tolerable, and I really do love Horie Yui’s voice, so even though the little song segment at the end was pretty boring, personally, I don’t really hold it against the show.

Ikuto also shows the first signs that he may care about Suzu, though he sort of jumps straight from “I’m aghast at seeing your naked flesh” to “yeah, I can see myself marrying this.” Also, a healthy dose of the long missed Machi and Ayane pleases me greatly. You were missed, ladies. Except for the Machi/Ayane segments though, this episode was pretty light on the humor, but personally it seemed to flow a lot more naturally than a lot of the other episodes recently have. I guess you could call it a Suzu x Ikuto development episode, but that kind of implies that there’s actually a plot here or that we expect some sort of result at the end of the series. Ha.

Summary:

The island is covered in raind and everybody is dealing with it different ways. Ikuto is lamenting his terrible cooking skills, while Chikage digs up a school swimsuit from somewhere, likely covered in strange fluids and diseases and goes running off. Suzu and Ikuto, having eaten, are out of things to do. Suzu is sewing while Ikuto slowly goes stircrazy. Suzu has various suggestions for games they can play to pass the time and they eventually start playing Shogi.

Yukino meanwhile has started a pillowfight with all the monsters in her house while Rin is talking shop with her animal carpenters. Suzu emasculates Ikuto by crushing him at Shogi. She then tells him that the rain brings back memories of her mother.

Machi is saddened because the rain has made her cookies soggy and demands food from Ayane, who gives her food spiked with spicy things and ends up invoking Machi’s wrath. It’s been awhile girls, we missed you.

Yukino and her pets have finished their little race in the rain and found a flower. Rin is also out for a walk when Machi and Ayane come trotting past. Ayane trips and Machi lands on her and the two see giant strawberries which they pick and all the rain wanderers finally meet up when they see Chikage passed out in the river.

Back with Suzu and Ikuto, Ikuto is amusing himself by tugging on Tokatsu while Suzu tries her hand at making them food. Ikuto thinks about various things, prompting Suzu to get all up-ins as I believe the kids these days say until the others iterrupt, bringing their various gifts for her. A flower from Yukino, a fish from Chikage, the strawberry from Ayane and the missing Shogi piece from Rin, while Ikuto thinks that it’s nice that they’re all Suzu’s friends.

The soaked Chikage then demands a bath, and of course, every single one of them immediately strips there in the room while Ikuto passes out. Good work man, you had a buffet in front of you, and you’re traumatized. You’re truly a credit to your gender… twit.

After everybody leaves, Suzu tells Ikuto how she’s not lonely because of all her friends, and especially Ikuto. We then get to hear our delightful Horie Yui sing a song that her mother used to sing for her. Ikuto thinks it’s beautiful and blissfully daydreams about himself marrying her. I guess that’s a step in the right direction. Suzu of course thinks that he’s daydreaming about mame daifuku. Good work. Also a credit to your gender.

No post-ep segment this time.

I have to say, Episode 10 is more of a heartwarming episode than a normal episode would be, normally its very energetic with bright colours and laughter but this episode portrays a different atmosphere, it has great dark grey backgrounding and colour coding and I love the rain to me it actually sounds very peaceful :P i especially love the scene where Suzu starts to sing (didn’t expect that) it gave me a better picture and understanding of Suzu’s background, and the impact it’s going to have on her, when Ikuto does finally leave “Airantou” also showing more character development Between Ikuto and Suzu.
    Love it!!
