“I’ll never be cruel to a Gen and tonic again.”

This episode is the long awaited debut of our favorite anti-hero and half-demon, Shishio Gen, and his debut doesn’t disappoint. He immediately beats down Yoshimori pretty mercilessly and tears through his barriers without even really exerting effort.

The start of the episode is mostly reintroduction to the snake teacher while the dynamic duo talk to him about recent happenings. Yoshi is completely exhausted after the talk, and Tokine remembers how she used to be always protecting him and how things have changed, while Yoshi broods over his memories of Tokine still watching over him before going and taking a nap in class.

New transfer student Gen is wandering the halls during this, and when he passes Yurina, she immediately realizes that he’s not a normal person and starts following him. She eventually crashes into a random guy and loses him, but decides to tell Yoshi about it. Gen keeps on lurking around outside of Yoshi’s classroom.

Once class ends, Yurina drafs the still sleeping Yoshi to the rooftop and tries to tell him about Gen. He’s pretty much sleepwalking though and doesn’t really pay attention before trying to wander back to class. Gen grabs him and pulls him outside, but he just keeps repeating the same “I’m sleeping, don’t bother me” line. This pisses Gen off, and Yoshi gets his head crushed into the building.

Yoshi wakes up on the rooftop, revealing that the sleepy Yoshi was a shikigami. Gen is now really pissed and unveils his ayakashi arm. Yoshi immediately senses the aura and goes running to it, where Tokine meets him and they find the wall crushed and slashed.

Gen keeps lurking around and beats up some punks while the two kekkaishi try to repair the damage Gen did to the wall and figure out who would attack Yoshi’s shikigami. Yoshi senses something and goes running off, leaving Tokine to fix the wall on her own.

Yoshi throws out a ton of shikigami crows to search for anything suspicious. He finds the punks that were beaten up while Gen grabs the snake teacher and threatens him. One of Yoshi’s crows finally finds Gen, and he retreats.

Snakey and Yoshi talk for a bit before another shikigami is killed. Yoshi runs off, but his shikigami keep getting attacked, until he finally finds Gen. Gen crushes the shikigami he’s holding and leaps to the rooftop. Yoshi uses his barriers to give chase while Tokine finally catches up and realizes that he’s an ayakashi.

Gen leads him to a wide area and then turns and begins launching himself from the fences to attack. Yoshi manages to dodge the blows, but as soon as he tries to make a barrier, Gen kicks him down. While down, Yoshi manages to get a barrier around Gen, but he just transforms his arm and slashes it open in one swipe and the barrier dissolves. Gen formally introduces himself as the episode ends.
