Aquarion Logos #16 — Meanwhile, Twenty Years Ago

October 15th, 2015

Oh god yes, an entire episode of flashbacks is just what I wanted.

Impressions:

21 minutes of maudlin flashback while approximately 45 seconds progressed in the present time, all in an attempt to reboot the angsty antagonist as a crazy rival character. Granted, that's a way I saw this going, but they did so via most of a flashback not even being centered on him, but about how his evil wizard dad went crazy because like apparently all Japanese characters ever apparently, both good and bad, he can't cope with grief. Because that's how the East Asian version of the Kübler-Ross model works. Denial, Anger, Bargaining, Become Wizard And Remake the World, Depression, Acceptance. Subete also isn't doing anything new, nor has discovered anything extra special, nor is he getting help from drugs or ghost girls or whatever. He's just using the words like they do, only apparently he uses them wordier, I guess. He's also started gelling his hair (with his tears, no less) to look more like Vegeta, because I can't think of anything that says "turning laughable goof into serious villain" better than running ones hands through their hair and throwing back their head like they're in a shampoo commercial.

It is so not too late to find something else to do on Thursdays.
