Kyousougiga #01 — Annoying Dogs with iPhones
October 9th, 2013
That’s by using iPhones, not annoying dogs that have iPhones.
Tomorrow has six shows I definitely plan on covering airing in about a 70 minute span, so I’ll get to what I get to in probably an extremely arbitrary order.
Impressions:
In case you missed my very belated edit last week, I was right when I guessed that the first (#0) episode was just a cut of the OVA. Unfortunately, the budget difference between that episode and this one is stark. Or maybe it’s just that Koto (er, the younger Koto) pretty much didn’t show up until the closing minutes, making the other females carry all the energy of the episode. Granted, they were varying levels of lovestruck and feral head-chewing monsterspawn, but they were also secondary to all the far more boring and almost stoned most of the time over-vowelled men, also sharing the same names.
Still, it didn’t have that same out-of-control wackiness that I really liked about the previous episode. Well, the start and end of that episode at any rate. I still feel like it was a lot less colorful and just plain not as well-directed. A lot of the episode just lacked purpose or agency. Yeah, I get that it’s a vignette of Koto and Myoue (older versions) doing the family thing, but I’m not entirely certain why, nor why you would use a sparkling surreal setting for it either. It does seem to have run its course, but I hope this isn’t a sign that all the craziness has run its course and will not be returning.
Next Episode:
Masks and little girls

I do think it would be more enjoyable after watching the OVA, though it shouldn’t be necessary to do so =/
