Twin Thief Angels #01 — Suddenly… Cat Girls
July 2nd, 2011
Because… I have no idea why.
And here I was thinking that the rest of my day would just be fabulous men when I discover another early webcast. Surprise! The show doesn’t actually start until Monday.
Impressions:
I’m not sure what to make of this episode honestly. It’s hard to really classify a show that begins with magical fights attacing muscle men smuggling leeks. Then later, they fight gadget drones before the bad guy gothloli appears with her ultimate weapon, a cat tank that releases a gas that turns people into cat girls while her boytoy rants about how this is the power of her love… until they’re saved by Tuxedo Mask Misty Knight. They also have a butler that lives in the floor and pops out at random times and Aoi may as well have inherited her breasts from Henrietta because I’m fairly sure that they have the same sound effect every time she does anything more strenuous than breathing. And sometimes when breathing too.
Speaking of that, in a lot of ways, it reminds me of Milky Holmes first episode, but before you start twisting your panties over that, Milky Holmes’ first episode was disjointed, confusing, and not at all clear that it was meant to be a parody. This has a lot of the same signs. The parody isn’t strong enough to clearly be parody, but the seeds are there. Of course, the seeds are also there for this to sink more into terrible cliches than comedy. It does share the strangely decent fight scene as MH’s first episode though. Certainly not near Blood-C’s level, but a lot more motion and choreography than in… say… any part of Aria.
It’s stupid, make absolutely no mistake about that, but it’s not quite stupid enough yet to be able to tell if it’s intentional or not. Of course, as far as personal coverage goes, it’s one of only two shows on Monday, so… you know… standards and whatnot. Still, even on another day, I’d give it another episode or two. It wasn’t hilarious, but it wasn’t awful either.
Webcast didn’t include an OP or ED. Actual Monday broadcast should.

The art style reminds me of Mahoraba, from a time when JC Staff was still cool. Those were the days.
