Not A June Preview So Much as an Ikki Tousen Preview

June 3rd, 2008

Who cares about spring or summer? It’s Ikki Tousen season.

Just a quick preview for Ikki Tousen, which starts in a week and there’s one other show in June, so may as well hit that too. I’ll cover all the rest once… you know… there’s something to cover about them.

Ikki Tousen: Great Guardians
http://www.ikkitousen.com/
Studio: ARMS
Genre: Action
Information Links: ANN Entry, Animesuki Thread
Premiers June 11th

Summary:
The continuing adventures  of the spirits of the Three Kingdoms reincarnated in mostly high schSool girls.

Personal Outlook:
You know what? Screw all y’all who sit on your high horses and whine about "oh no, it has panties" while watching for and being happy with the weeky crotchcam of Kallen’s cameltoe. I wouldn’t recommend just jumping into this series without watching the previous ones anyway, but of important note is A.) Ryofu’s back, and she’s the best megalomanical aggressive bisexual ever, and B.) Hakufu’s sister is voiced by Horie Yui. It’s like an Ikki Tousen dream come true. Now we just need the first episode to open with Ryomou vs Ryofu vs Kann-u and I’m ready to declare this one a resounding tour de force. We’ve already seen that there’ll be Ryofu vs Kann-u in the DVD promo, so… we’re halfway there.

Preseason Swing Rating:
Aria has absolutely nothing to do with this show.

Telepathy Girl Ran
http://www3.nhk.or.jp/anime/ran/
Studio: TMS Entertainment
Genre: Mystery
Information Links: ANN Entry, Animesuki Thread
Premiers June 21st

Summary:
A young girl discovers that she has telepathic abilities when she comes in contact with another esper. Together, along with their mutual friend, they suddenly start to get drawn into various mysterious occurances and called upon to solve them.

Personal Outlook:
The novels that this show is based on are aimed… a bit low on the age scale for my tastes, but it might be alright. Still, I’m not really entirely certain what to expect here. It’s airing on prime time, so the production values will probably be pretty decent, but the 6pm timeslot is pretty exclusively reserved for shows that are A.) Gundam or B.) Aimed at boys in the age range of 10-14 to sell toys/the latest issue of Shounen Jump. Besides all that, I’m pretty sure (and by pretty sure, I mean extremely sure) that Kyouran Kazoku Nikki and Zettai Karen Children will still be going and it would take one hell of a showing for it to uproot them.

Preseason Swing Rating:
What would a telepathic monkey cover?

Summary:

Two shows in June. I really can’t muster up much in the way of interest forRan, though I’m sure I’ll still check it out, but I’m all over Ikki Tousen like… well… not like the clothes on a Chinese warlord at any rate. There’s absolutely nothing wrong at all with girly girls flexing, exploding eachothers’ clothes and being excessively bisexual at one another… not to mention that it’s so much better animated than Hokuto no Ken.

All that, plus Horie Yui as the cutie warlord that basically made the Wu empire what it was through the entire Romance of the Three Kingdoms. I don’t care what anybody says, this is going to be great. Plus, it’s airing on AT-X, which should mean that the crazy censoring should be at least a little more relaxed. Although… I do have to wonder who would watch this show on a Wednesday morning. Oh well, I’m not complaining. It’ll be great to have an action show with some actual action again.

Did Asuna escape from Negi’s clutches and grow some GG’s to be in this show?

More eyepatch girls is always fun.

  • Sheba says:

Sekirei and Great Guardians for your oppai fight fix.

  • Kikaifan says:

The fighting shuts off my brain so I can enjoy the fanservice. Perfect combo!

  • NegativeZero says:

I hope that they don’t do what they did with DD and make the broadcast 4:3 only. That was more frustrating for me than the random censoring.
