Ikki Tousen DD 12: The Final Battle

May 14th, 2007

Magical Girl Chugoku Hakufu saves the day. My god, I wish I was kidding.

This is such a strange ending. It’s basically over at the 16 minute mark and the credits just sort of start running while random epilogue stuff goes on for about 8 minutes. This episode probably ranks about 4th or 5th in the visually impressive department, which is kind of sad given that it’s the big fight things have been leading up to. I guess the series was decent, but in a day or two, I’m going to rant about the battle of Chibi and how this silly this all was.

Kannu lays the smack down until Shiba-I loses her mind and tries to run everybody over in a car ending with it crashing into the refinery near Ryuubi and Koumei. Shiba-I stands up from the carnage andin a true terrible moment, Chouhi literally throws Kannu up to them. Didn’t she leap 5 stories into the air about three episodes ago?

Shiba-I demands the dragon jade from Ryuubi and Koumei and then jumps to attack. She grabs Ryuubi and tries to kill her, only for Kannu to leap to the attack and slash her. Her dragon tatoos glow and she releases the generic evil face/aura which resonates with Sousou and magically, he explodes and appears in Shiba-I’s place while she falls apart. The dragon jade also begins to glow and Ryuubi starts to lose control as Sousou’s dragon shows up. Ryuubi and Sousou’s dragons face off… or at least fly around briefly before Sousou’s dragon grabs Ryuubi’s by the neck.

PS, eye catch was nurse Hakufu… I remember seeing that in Megami… hrm hrm…

Sousou’s dragon keeps strangling Ryuubi’s while Koumei spouts more philosophical nonsense. Kannu tries to challenge Sousou, but he ignores her entirely. It starts to rain, which signals… what else… but the water dragon’s arrival. The dragon jade glows blue and “the wind starts to blow” says Koumei. Our blue dragon breaks Sousou’s hold, and for some reason she’s now in a chinese outfit and her eyes are in dragon mode, but she’s in total control.

Hakufu taunts Cao Cao a bit while her cheerleader squad looks on. The two fight in a pretty short battle that was nicely done, but all of about 3 seconds. Cao Cao starts spewing out random demons which attack the others, but Chou-Un jumps in to guard them. Ryuubi starts powering up again as Cao Cao heads for her. She catches Cao Cao’s sword, in control of her own power as well now, and the dragon in the jade begins to move as it explodes in a rainbow and magically seals Cao Cao.

Sonsaku and Ryuubi do their dragonball thing and finish Cao Cao off with a blast of rainbow dragon energy done to a pretty nice techno remix of the opening theme. Ryuubi’s happy she protected everybody and then falls from the sky as the dragon jade fades… and then… epilogue.

The various epilogue scenes are:

Rikuson and the master are standing over Ukitsu’s grave (what the-?)
Koumei and whose-her-face-the-Seito-lackey fishing.
Chouhi and her monk boyfriend working at a restaurant.
Gakushu laying the smack down at people flirting in a bookstore.
The Kyosho monks are a tourist attraction in the mountains.
Kyosho’s volleyball team has a new player.
Whose-her-face that got trounced by Chou-Un is off learning about horses from the other fairly unnamed Kyosho lackey.
Chou-Un sucks at flower arranging.
Shuuyu is studying for exams while Saji macks on ladies.
Hakufu and Ryomou work at a maid/cosplay cafe.
Ryuubi sits in bed and reads while Kannu ‘services’ her. And by that, I mean brings more books. I wish it was something better.
Kakuka is still moping and runs into Kakouton (what the fuck?), now wearing a big eyepatch and also moping.
And it’s over!

No seriously… what? As far as endings go, I guess it’s alright, but knowing the actual battle of Chibi, and how basically it decimated Cao Cao’s forces… KINDA EXACTLY LIKE WHAT HAPPENED HERE, all this talk of destiny and escaping it through this battle was really really dumb. The big final battle also had more cheerleading than it did fighting, which is always disappointing. Oh well, the whole series was full of ups and downs like this. I don’t regret watching it, but if there had been more episode 1s or 5s and fewer episode 4s or 9s, I would have been thrilled. Honestly though, the thing that leaves the worst taste in my mouth was the “Oh, and Ukitsu’s dead, but Kakouton’s alive.” Whose boneheaded decision was that?

What the hell?!! Don’t tell me thats the end. Half of the characters didn’t even show up till like the second to the last epi. Not to mention the other half didn’t even show up at all. I thought this was surpost to be more like then manga. If this is the end I’m very disapointed and think it can go on longer then just 12 epi’s.

I think the best part was the epilogue :-)
I swear this entire series was solely for seeing how many new figurines they could make and sell.
Though, I’m definitely game for a Hakafu/Ryomou Maid/Cosplay figurine set! Hawt!

I’m really annoyed that Ukitsu was killed off. What’s worse is that they just suddenly mention it and not explain how or why she passed away.

I thought there are 13 episodes for ikkitousen DD cuz I checked it on http://www.anidb.net

This whole second series was way under par compared to the first. The final episode of DD was just too much like every other anime, overly powerful people just flying around and fighting, and characters like Koumei who seem to know everything all the time ALL THE TIME(she was my least favorite). I didn’t really enjoy this series like the first, anyone else feel the same way?

I think there were only 12 episodes planned, the count on anidb.net looks likes it was based off the first series. The show isn’t on a seasonal schedule, so who knows. Maybe the next series will follow Ton around or something.

Better than the first season….but still ridiculous. I liked Tokyo Majin better as far as silly fighting anime goes. =)
