Is This a Zombie? #05 — The Soothing Warmth of Plutonium
February 7th, 2011
No wonder Japan has a low birth rate.
Impressions:
I feel a little annoyed by this episode. The action in the second half was nice and all, but the first half clearly showed where the budget for it came from and it was just piling on unanswered questions for really no good reason. It’s like they’re literally just making stuff up for Kyoko on the spot and will worry about explaining all of it later. Don’t get me wrong, it was vastly better than the first half which was spent almost entirely listening to Ayumu doing tongue twisters on the phone with Haruna’s boss and looking at stills of the girls glowing like Chernobyl, but there comes a point where you need to take a riding crop to the writers and say that’s enough.
She is the killer after all, and another magical (item) girl who knows Haruna (but the latter doesn’t know her), has some kind of vampire power that’s not vampire power, hasn’t fully revealed her reason for going on a wanton slaughter yet, and has a mutant healing factor that just won’t quit, bub. I’m more impressed that her clothes also managed to heal, but clothing in Japanese anime has never made a lick of sense. Oh yeah, and she was a mangled corpse at the end of last week’s episode. They’re going to have to sit down and explain this at some point, and I doubt they’re going to toss up another radioactive girl bath scene to do it.
