A Certain Magical Index II #09 — Running Man
December 3rd, 2010
Why is there suddenly so much running in this show?
Impressions:
Another decent, if somewhat unambitious episode. The plot remains on about the depth of thought as an 1860 Georgia lynch mob, but it helps things move along at a better clip than usual. Don’t be mistaken, they still have time to take random 5 minute smoke breaks for Styl so Tsuchi can explain how mages are like this, but wizards are like this, not to mention browbeat Touma about how they’re putting their lives on the line, but they are doing a decent job of keeping that stuff short and to the relative point instead of consuming great swathes of the episode at a time. Plus, it’s amusing to watch Touma be used as kind of a mobile shield. It just goes to show what someone competent could do if they had his power.
So anyway, this week didn’t really add much to the plot of… "A sorceress… get her!" but at least Touma got to swat away half a dozen beams and save some random girl. And now because Watermelon Chest is involved, it’s personal. Or something. That scene with Mikoto did turn from cute to annoying pretty quickly though. Is "that pole is dangerous, step away from it" really so hard to say? No, dude. Make indistinct and easily misunderstood claims about not wanting her to get hurt in the middle of a battlefield with crap flying everywhere. You didn’t even have the bloody right pole. Once again, I state that Touma’s not actually attractive to any of these girls, they simply cannot escape the sheer gravitational pull of the dense core of iron he has in place of a brain.
Preview:
Don’t try to think, Touma. Just punch her and call it a day. Which her? Any her.

I got the feeling you are starting to like this… anyway keep in mind this arc is a sort of continuous hide and seek game, so there’s not a deep plot till the end of it. Touma is “just” busy with protecting people, catch booby mages and, on the top of all, manage things with family, Index and Mikoto and her bastu game.
