Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz…

Impressions:

Good lord was this episode absolutely horrendous. Nothing says compelling story like 20 minutes of people sitting around and talking. It’s not like they were even saying anything interesting either. Allow me to summarize the gist of the episode:

Kumohiro: Oh no, I’ve failed Miharu.
Kouichi: Lulz, it’s okay, we’re not dead.
—
Yoite: My life is so hard and I’m such a huge ass. Kill me or I’ll kill your friends.
Miharu: Okay. It’ll be our own little secret.
—
Yoite: Nobody likes me.
Mikimi: Maybe because you’re a huge ass.

And that’s it. Sure, some crappy little throwaway character gets killed and more of "oh no, Yoite’s technique is slowly killing him" but did we really need to spend 20 minutes of how sad Yoite is? Buck up, you whiny jerkface, you slaughtered a whole village an episode or two ago… all by yourself. Sure, your power is lame and stupid, but you’re the one using it to randomly attack delivery men. You have nobody to blame but yourself for this particular brand of maudlin emotional stupidity. Bah!

    I really don’t know why they don’t try to streamline the story a little… it’s not a good idea to stick so close to the manga when it makes for episodes such as this one. I really hoped we would meet the woman in the preview in the second part of this episode, her story arc is at least interesting.

    I don’t understand why Yoite doesn’t just use a gun as well. Save that Kira power for when you might actually need it!

    These talky episodes are concerning me, and point to some really bad storytelling.
