Invasion! Squid Girl #04 — Quit While You’re A Head

October 25th, 2010

I have a problem when it comes to bad puns. I know, and am already seeking help.

Both Zakuro and this showed up late on the interwebs today and I have to leave for class in 25 minutes. This appeared first, so it gets preferential treatment. Zakuro will be taken care of once I get back.

Impressions:

Another episode of two pretty poor segments and one quite good one. At least they seem to be tucking the stronger stuff at the end. The first bit was Squidy coming into some money, buying shrimp, and eating it. Then Stalker-Face dressed herself as a shrimp and mailed herself to them. Yeah. A total laugh riot. The second part was just a bit unfocused, but mostly Squidy starting to acclimitize herself to family life. The mock war with the soy sauce was kind of cute, but… eh. Seen one "wake up and try to eat someone" joke, you’ve seen them all.

The third part was pretty good though. They found a Squidy impersonator with a giant Squidy head of her own and proceeded to have a battle to determine who the real one was. I can only imagine the amount of counseling those children will need after seeing one anthropomorphic girl being chased by herself with its head on backwards. Unfortunately, it did fade back to the show’s usual levels of not really having any kind of joke except people making faces soon after that, of which they have a very limited supply. At least they’re starting to find a little traction here, even if it is riding on the severed giant head of a squid.

And yes, I’m well aware that a certain incest show that airs today contained someone daydreaming about having quite graphic sex. Ye lords, how is this show being broadcast at all? Way to be Imagin, Imagin.

Wait, I thought you just covered Ore Imouto, it aired again? I’m getting more and more afraid to watch it… :P

Who’s Imagin? Animation studio or something?

Also, SOLD on this week’s Yosuga no Sora.

    • Nanaya says:

      …No. Just, no.

I still don’t understand the fascination with anthropomorphic stuff in japan. All this series does to me is raise disturbing questions.

    • Aroduc says:

Imagin is a studio that mainly does cooperative efforts, where almost every single thing they touch is characterized by awful production and nonstop T&A. feel may be doing the actual animation for Yosuga, hence the higher production than normal, but almost the entire production team comes from Imagin.

  • RaiKitsune says:

Was that a daydream? I thought he was looking back on his sexual encounter with her while he listened.

  • Mesousa says:

Well, this is a matter of haters gonna hate, I guess.
