Gunslinger Girl -Il Teatrino- #04 — I Give Up
January 28th, 2008
Everybody loses.
Impressions:
The art and animation this episode was simply terrible. There’s really no other way to put it. I mean… come on. Look at these two shots of Olga (from 7:57) taken literally a couple seconds apart. Are the artists even trying? Plus when Angelica got pushed down, instead of actually animating that, it was shown as about 10 stills with a fade in between each frame. That’s how visual novels ‘animate’ things because they’re too cheap to have actual animation. This kind of thing shouldn’t happen at all in a real show. I can make a number of other complaints too, from the strangely solid chunk of wine to that really poorly directed knife scene, but I think you get the gist. This really is getting closer and closer to just watching the manga, and I really do mean that in the worst possible way… like listening to an audiotape while staring at pages of the comic. I’ll probably stick around until the Triela vs Pinocchio rematch, but unless it really amazes me, I think I’ll have to give up on this one. I like the story and all, but since I’ve already browsed through the manga, the past three episodes have done practically nothing for me.

I guess it must be really disappointing to see the animation quality go downhill after what we’ve seen from the 1st season, which was quite awhile ago. You’d think the animation quality would increase, not decrease.
I’m seriously wondering if I should watch this now.
