Arakawa Under the Bridge #09 — You Are Already Dead

Samurai! Woow!

Impressions:

The first half was a lot of fun, but the second half was all Star-For-Brains Moon-For-Brains and left quite a lot to be desired. Going from a giant Fist of the North Star parody to 10 minutes of listening to him monologue while Kou makes silly faces is well past shooting yourself in the foot and up to french kissing a rabid badget. I thought we were past the "Kou screams and makes a face" phase of this show. I can understand it when Stella suddenly grows 12 feet tall, but Starfy’s various reasons for his evolution through various heavenly bodies are barely unusual, let alone anything compared to what’s already happened.

Like I said though, the first half was pretty fun, even if I’m sure I missed quite a few Hokuto references since I’m not a fan of the series. I think Chiwa Saito may have been gargling rocks during that scene too. I fear for her voice. I was a little surprised that Shaft didn’t flex their animation muscles during those scenes a little more. They weren’t as bad as a lot of the animation has been for this show, but most of the effort went into dramatic overanimated pan-ups. It’s not like the Starmie bit needed any budget given to it anyway. The styles were all over the place this week anyway. I have absolutely no idea where this shot came from, nor do I want to know.

Side note, I’m well aware of Vesperia, but I have a ton of papers to work on for the next few days. I’ll try to take care of it later tonight after my group meeting to put all this stuff together, but it’s 2 hours long. I may not be able to pull together the time for it tonight.

    Maybe…from the simpsons?

The 1st half was fun, but I didn’t like the (mostly) mindless humor of it. The 2nd half didn’t do it for me because Star just isn’t a charismatic character, but it was saved by giving us a glimpse into Nino’s past. And Riku’s image of the Star mask tricking people was hilarious.

Who knew Stella had a tragic love tale in her?
