Hidamari Sketch ×☆☆☆ #04 — The Wonder of Home Depot

January 28th, 2010

A store without gravity, apparently.

Impressions:

A decent enough episode, for the relative lack of Hiro, but Nazuna is seriously starting to grind on my last nerve. She seems totally incapable of opening her mouth without whining about how she doesn’t deserve to have friends, or eat dinner, or be asked her opinion on curtains. It’s like she is insecurity personified and has been created simply to give Nori a project to work on in her spare time. Nori’s not a whole ton better, but she’s at least a baseline forgettable instead of actively annoying.

The lion’s share of this episode was the girls (minus Sae and Hiro) wandering around Home Depot to buy a new curtain for Nori. The major difference from past visits to stores was that they had different props to play with this time around, chainsaws instead of art brushes, but otherwise, it wasn’t particularly unique in the Hidamari world. Miyako was pretty much a one woman show for entertainment this week, although I did rather enjoy Yoshinoya pretending to be the principal at the beginning. She really needs her own spinoff. Maybe in her high school years where she’s a raging cosplay lesbian who terrorizes a class suspiciously full of martial artists who can’t keep their clothes on. Hmmmmmm…

    You mean this one?

Also, note the extra Natsume time filler. She really gets more screentime here than she ever did in the manga.

    The ED, needs more Yoshi-sensei.
