The end of emptiness.

My poor laptop is shrieking in pain as it tries to auto-cap a two hour movie, so you’ll have to make do with some clips for now. I’ll upload caps when it manages to churn through them without crashing. Or I might be asleep for the next 6 hours. We’ll see.

Impressions:

After some 9 odd hours of Rakkyo in only 7 posts, I feel like I’m repeating myself… more than usual at any rate. A lot of the exposition to explain the world was relatively dull, the action was awesome, the music was great, the crazy people were the best part, and despite being the most boring and milquetoast person alive, everybody wants to sleep with Mikiya, even the men. The amusing thing is that, at least on screen, Lio’s gotten the furthest with him. Aaaand since I already pretty much know the background, I find myself paying attention to Touko’s garish orange fingernail polish, or Azaka’s rather fetching sweater. Sleep deprivation may also be playing a part here.

In a lot of ways, this one was hurt by the achronic nature of the series. Since parts of this story comes so early, get a lot of flashbacks through the whole thing, and it’s weird to have Araya pop up again. They’re also not fooling anybody with Mikiya’s knife to the head at the end, etc. There was literally about ten minutes of Shiki monologuing about Mikiya’s ‘death,’ without even bothering to find the body. Although that haircut he had afterwards was probably uglier than any scar would have ever been. Regardless, they still did a great job with crazy crazy Lio, even if the whole rape imagery (and ever-rare Shiki panty shot) was probably a bit much. How does he even have that much saliva anyway? He’s seriously like a fire hydrant. The antagonists have usually been the most interesting part of the series (at least to me), and while Lio’s certainly no Souren, it’s at least a strong note to end the main series of movies on. Plus, Mikiya took a knife to the face. You’ve got to cheer for that if nothing else. Take that, Mr. "I won’t forgive you if you kill the crazy cannibal murderer."
