Hekiyoh’s Student Council #02 — Study A Go! Go!
October 9th, 2009
Ha HA! Golden girls…
Impressions:
Not as good as last week, but still a pretty funny episode all around. The comedy just trailed off a little bit in the second half to make room for Ken to trip some Sakurano flags by getting her to admit that she doesn’t hate him. The art was a little bit more stable this week too, although the black and white playing cards looked terrible in every single shot they popped up in. I particularly enjoyed Ken quick-saving before he tried which of VN Sakurano’s choices to pursue, and the Resident Evil joke at the start was also worth a chuckle. Minatsu frustrating Ken by not fitting into his stereotypes also made me smile.
However, the shining star of the episode, aside from Captain Harem, was easily Chizuru, who’s probably even more of a deviant than Ken. She’s a master of brainwashing, managing to crush not only Sakurano’s feeble mind, but gets Ken into a maid dress. She mercilessly tormented Sakurano through most of the first half in order to put her more completely under her control and under the guise of motivating Sakurano to study, had her own grand plan to most likely exploit her appeal. Oh yeah, and she’s carting around a Death Note. Between her, gamecrazy Mifuyu, and Ken, it’s actually getting kind of hard to tell which one is actually the most deviant in the group.
Brief Summary:
After a quick bout of going over club stuff, discussion turns to Sakurano’s poor grades and scholarly habits. Mafuyu’s got some… not quite useful advice involving trap cards, and Minatsu’s safe because she’s actually a pretty smart cookie, forcing Ken to re-evaluate her classification. They look at Sakurano’s class notes and are put into a state of shock. After Ken manages to get the H scene with her in his VN imagination, Chizuru torments her a bit before lending Sakurano her notes. Ken’s devestated, so Chizuru lends him them too, on a certain condition.
Later, however, Sakurano’s test scores are still awful. The girls all pitch in to try to get Sakurano back on track, but it’s pretty useless and eventually, school ends. Ken stays after to finish up some work, and Sakurano comes back and demands that he teach her how to study. He declines, and makes her admit that she doesn’t completely hate him. She begrudingly admits it, and he reminds her why everybody likes her so much. Unfortunately, that makes her arrogant and she starts proclaiming that she’s the best, pissing off Chizuru who had been eavesdropping outside. She pops in and forces Sakurano back under her control.
Down the hallway, the drill hair lurks.
