Magic bread!
Season Premier Disclaimer:
I like to check almost every new show out. The value of a show is in its execution, not its premise. That said, my tastes are mine and mine alone. Some things bother me, some things don’t. I will attempt to be as cogent as possible as to my complaints or compliments for each show, but be aware that my views skew heavily towards the center. Nothing is perfect, nothing is irredeemable. That said, my tastes and my opinions are mine and mine alone and should not be construed as fact or, god help us, some kind of erudite critical analysis of the entire series based on the show’s first 20 minutes. Feel free to leave your own thoughts on the show if you’d like, but invective and similar will be mocked or deleted depending on which amuses me more at the time.
Impressions:
You know, I was planning on cranking the sarcasm up to maximum and lavishing praise on this, but honestly, I don’t know if I have it in me. It’s Sunday morning anime aimed at young girls. Yes, there are shows that aren’t (ZKC, Cross Game, Gurren-Lagann, etc), but this isn’t one of those. I feel like I’d be picking on My Little Ponies. What’s the point? The only people that this is targetted for are never going to see this and I’m not going to try to pretend to be a scholarly critic that can understand the tastes of young Japanese girls.
No, it’s not going to satisfy anybody looking for a serious show. However, if you’re looking for an innocent little feel-good girly show about baking with a penchant for nice classical music, it seems nice enough… kind of like Yakitate made for 8 year old girls. Maybe if you have a younger sister or a daughter to watch it with? I have no idea, and I generally don’t want to know what anime viewers are attempting to do with the young girls placed around them.
