Take that, Bechdel test.

For the record, I did glance at the latest incarnation of the Certain Something Something franchise since it's been most of a decade since its last iteration. Man, that franchise has fallen, and it was mindless to start with. I think it's more that JC Staff has simply shed all the talent it had in its heyday of Shana/Louise/Index, but good lord. Where have your animators gone?

Impressions:

Oh boy. A show about horrible people being universally horrible. I hadn't registered quite how abusive the main character is, or while she's on the brink of being raped, her only thoughts are that she's failed to show her father proper filial piety as a woman must do. This is not a character I would be cheering for, and frankly, it's a little weird to show her being physically and emotionally abusive to her own family. Generally, these things veer towards them being the recipient of abuse so you feel sorry for them. "You're sick and gonna die young" vs "You're human garbage." Girls, you're both being trash people.

All it really does is dial up how unpleasant everyone is. And I guess not reincarnated. Extra rapey. Extra villainessy. Extra awkward when it tries to be cutesy. For the dude, that means he's a bit more violent and unhygenic when it comes to washing off blood, but can we give a shout out to the clothing in this setting? Completely immune to bloodstains unless worn by that one dude. The writing is awful from the jump. Gardeners sitting around, announcing to each other who the lady of the manor is and her pertinent traits, followed by the sister coming up with literally "As you know, you have a heart condition and will die young." Script writers, please.
