Yanineko #01 — Projectile Fluids
July 2nd, 2026
Ew.
Ugh. Been a long time since WordPress ate a post. Once again then.
Impressions:
Within the first minute, a slovenly dude is jerking off to her while she violently spews diarrhea. Cool. It's a bit better animated than you'd expect, which does help for stuff like when she overdoses on nicotine patches or to sell the general griminess and squalor of her and the setting, though is a mixed blessing when it comes to projectile body fluids. It's also thankfully not entirely the screaming overreaction kind of humor, but at the same time, it's not much of a comedy either. Almost all the jokes are either her being disgusting, or her saying she really needs to smoke less/turn her life around, and then immediately lighting a cigarette. That, and characters named things like Kansai who is from Kansai, or Imo-ko, the cat that is her sister. Puns. Hilarious.
That's where I think it fails for me. The scene at the end where she has a nightmare about having lung cancer could've been a strong statement for the direction the show was going to go in about her turning her life around. The whole episode was her being pretty unapologetically disgusting. Half-assing her work, throwing her garbage on people, belching in their faces, etc. Which is also kind of weird when the setting is clearly ultra-racist against catgirls. But her tearfully calling her sister, vowing to quit smoking was just a setup for the same punchline as before, that she immediately continues to smoke while her sister yells in a panic about it. It's just depressing and offputting to me, and missing her actual trying to overcome her lot in life, even if eventually comically failing, while the direction is pretty relentless in showing what an awful person she is.
