Tomb Raider King #01 — Contains No Tombs Nor Raiding
July 1st, 2026
Yes, I know I already made that joke.
Impressions:
This put up its first two episodes on Youtube a couple weeks back, and doesn't actually start broadcasting until next week, obviously by the giant 7/8 watermark. And there is definitely something janky about its animation, though I can't put my finger on what exactly. I think it's that it looks like it may have started out as one of those motion comics kind of things, or is using that as its keyframe base, and is not blending very well whenever it has to animate things moving. The blockier designs that are more characteristic to manhuas don't tween well, especially not with the ugly CGI monsters. It's three art styles all clashing… at least I think. Maybe it's all in my head. Though knowing that this is being pitched as heavily AI assisted certainly taints the thoughts.
IN ANY CASE, it is indeed, Temu Solo Leveling. He immediately dies to some dragon in an almost one for one copy of Solo Leveling's "dungeons suddenly appeared" setting, some random bird bestows super powers on him, now he gets to live out all his power fantasies and grin malevolently while knifing random thugs while having flashbacks about how he was actually abused by them, or worse, rambling out nonsense on the setting to nobody in particular and reciting the status screens that appear in front of him. But it certainly doesn't have Solo Leveling's budget, and by the time we get to the second episode, it starts adding goofy sound effects and camera shakes for comic effect, which… I guess are starting to make the AI stench reek even more.
