Marriagetoxin #01 — Behold My Chess Room

April 7th, 2026

The slobbering thug has a life size chess room? Uh, why?

There's at least six new shows today, zero of which I have any positive expectations for, and I've already had a filling replaced, so my face is numb and it's been a long day before even getting started.

Impressions:

Well, this was… I'd say awful, but the spectre of all those cheat power things hangs over my head, so I'll say predictably mediocre instead. Exceptionally childish, where every criminal is a cackling mad lunatic, literally slobbering at the mouth and screams nonstop about how much they love to do crime just for criming sake because they're such bad guys, everybody has some bizarre gimmicky nonsense of a super power like spitting hypersonic pellets, and all of what passes for jokes is overreactions and yelling. Combine this with the usual godawful shounen pacing where two people stand five feet apart and have an eight minute conversation stating their personalities, motivations, and the premise of the show, and you have yourself an episode. Oh wait, also have to follow that tedious infodump session with a bunch of comical overreaction yellings. NOW we have an episode.

The really disappointing part was probably its half-assed attempts to do action sequences. The first go round was especially terrible, just a Matrix CGI bullet time spin and then hard cut to everything already having happened off-screen. The second bite at the apple was only marginally better for actually showing things, but what it showed was, once again, Matrix CGI bullet time, to be followed by him power jogging at 40 mph. You have this brooding angsty melodramatic dipwad, another broody con artist, and they're doing gags for 10 year olds, which it clearly thinks are badass and cool. It looks goofy, if you're going to be charitable, or a haphazard and jarring juxtaposition of tone and presentation if you want to be extra pretentiously wordy.
