Magical Girls Lulu & Lily #01 — Alien Intentions
April 5th, 2026
Just handing out super powers to whatever idiot yells at you, huh?
Impressions:
Look on the bright side. No CGI concert or idol schtick this episode. Well, until the ED at least, but that's fairly expected and was still pretty stylized. On the flip side, there wasn't much of anything else. Which is also pretty odd because the part of the episode that usually drags where it introduces being a magical girl or whatever and all the rules that go along with it, gasping over having a transformation, declaring that you really transformed, so on and so forth? That part was glossed over with reckless abandon. As was any reason for drama. Her sister collapsed once, and…???? Is that it? Everyone seems fine now. They used to be besties, but now are… less besties but still besties? Is this the big family crisis?
She gets beamed up into an alien ship, and the first thing she does is start yelling at them that they need to use their magic to make her sister happy again because they're obviously magical aliens. And they run with it because they are indeed magical aliens, so hand her a wand, a couple fat pets, and fly away. Four minutes, in and out, so they can get back to the core content of the show, blankly staring at things. Which are now the pets, which every family member must do so in turn. Then the episode unceremoniously stops, having glossed over the big occurrence five minutes prior, and having forgotten to set up any actual ongoing narrative or hook for next week. …Right.
