You know, some fanservice definitely wouldn't have hurt things.

Impressions:

As much as I'd like to praise it for showing restraint and waiting eight minutes before making a 'joke' where the protagonist goes "WHAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!?", I don't think that I can, as that was one of the whopping two jokes in the episode. You might be able to expand that to maybe four or five if you include some reaction faces for things like "I got interrupted." But if you're looking for something with the… pfft… wit or excitement of your standard harem romcom, guess again.

It's hard to say which was the nadir of the episode. The big drama moment was when they asked him what he really thought of humanity, and he said that humans sucked. Then they said "Nuh uh," and everybody dropped it. But then right after came the crisis that the mermaid accidentally got sushi in her lunchbox. Which prompted about three paragraphs of explaining that mermaids are bad about eating fish (uh, what do they eat normally then? Just seaweed?), that sushi is made of fish, and that fish is fish. This is the collective crisis that ended the episode, them overcoming it by sharing food. The bar is that low.
