The Beginning After the End #01 — Look Who’s Talking

April 2nd, 2025

I'm already completely over cheat power shows, and there's still more to go… today.

Impressions:

Just more cheat power garbage. Another iteration of old dude in a baby's head, impassively narrating literally everything around him. And considering we started out with a whole scene of him staring impassively at the city of screaming civilians he was carpet bombing, I'm thinking that maybe we're somehow managing to begin things on even a worse foot than Jobless Reincarnation. Okay, he doesn't spend the next twenty minutes sexually assaulting and ogling the new family. Instead, he reads books and explains how this particular flavor of magic works at exhaustive length, which is why he's the best at it ever and effortlessly explodes the house like the same tired demigod every single one of them is.

I've wasted enough ink on this. Supposedly it gets better. Supposedly a lot of things do. I've seen this precise episode at least a dozen times in the last year, and I'll probably see it a dozen more. There was nothing good about it. The protagonist starts out abhorrent and fights to claw his way to tiresome dullard. There is no story. The production is laughably bad. There is nothing in this episode that lends any credence to "it gets better." Maybe it only doesn't get as worse as all the other things that are exactly like it.
