Genshiken 2 #01 — Same as it Ever Was
October 9th, 2007
Maybe I’m reaching for a Talking Heads joke here… but it still works.
Impressions:
If you’re hoping that the art or animation quality improved, then I have bad news. If you were satisfied with it in the first season’s quality, then good news! Here’s more of the same. I wasn’t a huge fan of the first season anyway, and around this point in the manga, it starts to abandon all the otaku angles and becomes more of a whiny romantic drama between Sasahara and Ogiue.
There’s not too much particularly insightful to say one way or the other here. It picks up where the OVAs (from the Unbalance DVDs) leave off and if you haven’t watched the first season, you’ll probably be somewhat lost by being dropped right into the clubroom… so… either you already know the show and are interested, or you have no clue and should go back and check out the first season. Art and animation are still relatively low quality and everything is about as dynamic as a euthanized toad, but the show still retains that sardonic wit that comes and goes and is worth a few chuckles at times. So, good news for pre-existing fans I guess… but nothing that’ll draw people who don’t care for the show in. No OP this week either.
No summaries for the first episodes. I write as I watch, and I don’t know if I’ll care about a show until after the first episode.
