The White Sage and Dark Priest #01 — Girl Makes Faces
July 12th, 2023
Lotta creativity went into this one.
Impressions:
And here's the last new show of the season, a 4-panel comic adaptation of a girl making silly faces that is… certainly that. The faces have to be particularly silly at this point for that to carry a show. Bocchi sort of managed it through production and at least a whiff of character development, but this leans much more into the generic. Particularly of the silly face with put upon caretaker, which has had every flavor from otaku to elf to coworker to vampire to god only knows what else. I somehow doubt that Catholic Saint is mixing up the formula.
It's inoffensive dross, I guess. At its best, it's sort of cute, but it is entirely without any ambition or interest in anything more than that. She is (supposedly) adorably immature and perpetually flustered. He attends to her. Antics… don't really ensue, because there's not even an episodic kind of story holding things together, but she blushes and makes silly faces regardless. The most exciting thing to happen is she rocks in a chair and almost falls over. If that's all you need, eat up, I guess.
