The Great Sage #01 — Abrupt Yelling
July 6th, 2023
Oh, so this is where all the internal narration ended up.
Impressions:
Mostly, I have to wonder what they even think this show is supposed to be. Absolutely no action or adventure. Nothing happens, so no drama. There aren't really any jokes, so not a comedy, though I think that's what they were sort of going for with the semi-overreactions or excessive speedlines to reactions, but even those were just at almost completely literally random moments. Asking what somebody does with the magic business card? Nothing. Asking about the city? Speedlines reaction. Why one and not the other? I have no idea.
The characters and story are only that the dude reincarnated into an RPG world and is currently about 25% through the tutorial, but still fussing around in the menus. Literally. Because this is one those stupid things where they say "open status" and it gives them a menu to scroll through along with a list of the things that they supposedly know, because they don't know what they know without looking up their own knowledge. Please stop making these shows, Japan. With or without the overt cheat powers. We already have enough to subsist on until the planet becomes a burnt out husk. There is no need for more.

That might be the most boring premier this season. The protagonist even had to reassure viewers that the episode ended at an intriguing moment (it did?). Even that vending machine one had more stuff happening.
