Dead Mount Death Play #01 — Bone Town

April 10th, 2023

Lotta people minding their own business about a kid with a slit throat wandering around.

Impressions:

It certainly has a healthy budget and the action scenes are all well-animated which helps a lot. I do think the actual direction could stand to be tightened quite a bit. It was having a hard time fitting in an entire goddamned three course lecture about magical eyes and whatnot in between making giant magical swords and skeleton dragons. I'd have much rather just seen a focused structured fight. Likewise, the second half had a lot of overreaction shots that would've been much better more subdued and creepy. There's a reason Michael Myers/Ghostface/Jason don't jump out from around the corner and start yelling "I AM A PSYCHOPATH WHO WANTS TO KILL YOU AND I AM NOW GOING TO TRY TO KILL YOU BECAUSE I KILL!" Likewise, the couple jokes were completely out of place for the tone of the show.

Consider those relatively minor quibbles though, as this was definitely one of the stronger first episodes of the season. Again, action was well-done, both in animation and choreography. There was a story introduced, developed, and left with a hook despite the rambling nonsense over magical eyes. Characters introduced with mostly not reciting their life story at length, only that they're psychopaths. I'm trying to meet you halfway here, show. Keep the modern world cheat power in moderation, or bring the knight over too as a matching rival, and even that can be as stomachable as a more typical super power show. Don't screw it up from here, Geek Toys, because Mondays otherwise look awful.

Stroinger first episode this… ok. It is just another mediocre isekai, power levels, status screens, overpowered characters, if the main character would go on a gore rampage and kill everyone then maybe, as it stands is basically a awful regurgitated isekai.
