Warring Era BASARA #11 — LET’S PARTAY!
June 10th, 2009
Oh, Date… you and your attempts at English.
Impressions:
The best Basara episode in a long while, although it felt like the director was more than a little drunk. Kagura showed up already captured by Nouhime, just so we could have a flashback of her being captured, and every time we cut back to Mitsuhide fighting Yukimura/Masamune, they were in a new place. First they were inside, then they were outside, then Masamune was chasing Ranmaru through some other building, then they were back inside the original burning building… not that I have any point really, just saying that the cohesion was a little lacking. I was ripping the scenes (wow, been awhile since I’ve watched anything worth showing off), but partway through the 2nd disconnected cut to another location, I realized that it made no sense. C’est la vie.
Kasuga was also the most entertaining that she’s been in ages, and I put that all on Sasuke’s shoulders. His ‘magic whistle’ turned out to be an exploding hang glider, confusing the hell out of Nobunaga’s ninjas, and dumping Kasuga right into Sasuke’s arms for some lovey dovey time… and some more teasing her for thinking that the whistle would summon him. Koyasu is just too slick for words.
Tangentially related, I do wish they’d lay off the Oichi bits though. A.) Mamiko Noto in her eleven thousandth "quiet and sad girl" role bores me, and B.) For all her screen time, she’s had exactly zero effect on the plot so far. I cheered a little bit at the apparent execution scene at the end, but the stupid preview had to go and spoil that Sasuke saves her. You’ve got Kasuga already, dude. You don’t need any freakin’ Noto trash. While I’m complaining, I’m also annoyed that Ranmaru went down immediately and whined about it all the while. He’s not dead yet, but after being ganked so hard by Masamune, any malice he’s had is completely shot. And seriously, I’m not sure there was anything else they even could have spoiled in the preview for 12.
Preview:
Most spoilerific preview freakin’ ever.
