Tears to Tiara #09 — Girl in a Box

June 1st, 2009

Far more pleasant than a dick in a box.

Impressions:

Loathe as I am to say it, I really didn’t like the way they handled Octavia switching sides in this version, though from what I gathered, it’s pretty close to the PS2 version. A lot of that isn’t her fault so much as Lydia’s and surprisingly, Arawn’s. Lydia dropped about four notches on the villanous threat-o-meter(tm) this week by spending almost five minutes ranting and raving at a bound and gagged Octavia. Combine that with her apparently being no match at all for the now defected Octavia, and it’s now hard for her to seem like much of a physical threat to the rest of the scooby gang either.

The problem I had with Arawn is that while the original way he convinced Octavia to defect (accidentally making her think he wanted to marry her… and then some light bondage lovin’) it was at least relatively in character for him all around. Here, he flipped out, lost his temper for the first time thus far and started punching walls. This from a man whose typical reaction is a sarcastic comment and rolling his eyes. I feel like he’s betrayed my kind. And this came after the rather questionable decision to leave an unknown enemy soldier roaming around in their own supply depot just after torching the enemy’s supplies. Shouldn’t the thought that the enemy might do the same thing as you just did have crossed his mind? Or at the very least, he could have tracked down the enemy soldier running around in their base instead of ignoring them to go chill with Ogam.

Also, maybe it’s just me, but I’m pretty sure that Octavia’s chest steadily increased in size during that entire Lydia ranting session. I think someone had her implants hooked up to the helium.

Preview:

Octavia fits in. Minus the bondage sex.

This episode is really dark again. I can barely see anything in some of these shots. Will have to wait for the HD version I guess. -_-

    Yay~! Octavia~! \o/ /o\ \o/ /o\ \o/!
    I just love her~!

  • ximpa says:

I actually think it’s much better than the game, where it felt forced, to say the least.

I think that’s the first time I’ve heard the phrase “light bondage lovin’”.

Octavia’s chest probably changes size all the time. I’ve noticed magic breast size changes in several series. It’s not quite as bad as when which character is taller than another changes…

Actually, in the PS3 version I felt it was more natural compared to the PC where it felt rather forced. Anyway, about Arawn, it’s kind of nice in a way since you can see his other emotions beside his usual behaviors.

Didn’t play the original game so I can’t make any comparisons.

However, I do like Arawn going on a rant in the end. It shows that even he isn’t a snarker all the time, and it’s not entirely out of character either. The series so far has made it clear that people being so willing to throw their own lives away for immaterial things like “honor” or “swordsman pride” is a BIG berserk button for him. And he hates it when people give up on themselves. He gets mad at Riannon for it in episode 2 and he constantly berates Arthur for it, like in episode 8.

So while not as amusing as his usual deadpan snarking, it is still pretty dramatic and believable.

Gotta agree that this episode is way too dark (as in wtf is going on half the time can’t see a damn thing) and Lidia has lost points in my eyes too. She’s just another standard loony obsessed with her rival; one that OHKO’ed her in the past I might add.

Just one thing: where the heck did those elite red Rublum soldiers go? Their commander was at the base, so where were they?
